Here is a selection of news from STV's last week: Volvo Group electric trucks have reached the significant threshold of 80 million km on a global scale. According to the Swedish manufacturer, it’s equivalent to 2,000 laps around the world, so far.   Five Renault Trucks E-Tech D are already in use for Dachser. Seven more vehicles of this type and three Renault Trucks E-Tech T tractors are now being delivered.   cellcentric, the JV shared by Volvo and Daimler, is developing new fuel cell system for long-haul trucks. Now, the company announced that pilot production at the Esslingen-Pliensauvorstadt site.   HVS (Hydrogen Vehicle Systems) (HVS) has recently announced an agreement with UK-based transport company Edwin C Farrall Transport. The aim is to explore the integration of hydrogen-powered fuel cell heavy-duty vehicles into the Farrall’s fleet.   Shell has recently inaugurated its first self-developed megawatt charger for dual use by both electric trucks and shipping vessels at the Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam (ETCA). For the mobility transition to succeed, we need around 50,000 megawatt charging points for heavy commercial vehicles in Europe by 2030. As an industry in our joint venture Milence we strive for 1.700 stations in Europe within the next years – together with Scania Group, Volvo Trucks and Daimler Truck AG Trucks. As an add on we also want to make our own contribution to this. I am delighted that with E.ON we now have a strong partner at our side for the electrification of our own service locations. Thanks to Leo Birnbaum, CEO of E.ON, and Sukhjinder Singh from E.ON Drive (EDRI) for their strong commitment to our common project. It has been an exciting journey in the past few month to get to this point. The new initial charging network for trucks comprises around 400 charging points at over 170 MAN locations across Europe, with the opening of the first location planned for this year and 80 locations by the end of 2025. With around 125 locations in Germany alone, the largest nationwide public charging network for heavy commercial vehicles to date is being created. And we will open it not only for MAN vehicles. But for all different brands where possible – to further pave the way for our transformation towards zero emission technologies. In the first step, the MAN locations will each be equipped with several 400 kW charging points. This will allow an average electric truck to recharge in around 45 minutes for a range of up to 300 kilometres. A later upgrade of the locations to the MCS megawatt charging system will follow. What is very important now is to achieve a large-scale roll-out of the charging network very quickly. Though long distance heavy EVs seem to still be a step away, our interest in last miles rigid vehicles for our pallet network has heightened with some recent offerings from the main manufacturers. During the past three weeks we have vigorously tested the Volvo FL 19T Electric truck to explore its integration into the fleet. We have reached another milestone on the road to decarbonizing commercial vehicles! In the presence of the Bavarian Minister-President Dr. Markus Söder, we MAN Truck & Bus SE celebrated together with ABB E-mobility our premiere of the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) today. It allows five times more powerful charging than today's most powerful car charger. The MAN eTruck was publicly charged for the first time at an MCS charging station – one of the first in Germany and the very first in Bavaria – with 750 KW. This marks the start of the future of e-truck charging. But we need more speed:   We need 30,000 megawatt charging points in Europe by 2030, around 4,000 of them in Germany. Only then will long-distance commercial vehicle transport become more climate-friendly. We don't have much time for the expansion. Average fleet consumption must be reduced by 45% by 2030. So we only have six years to build up the infrastructure, to pick up speed – and reduce bureaucracy.   Electric trucks are available, megawatt charging is working. That is a PACT with impact!   PACT stands for "Powering America's Commercial Transportation": Big players in the transportation industry have joined forces to accelerate the build-up of charging infrastructure for medium- and heavy-duty trucks in the US. A great and necessary initiative – because, according to the International Council on Clean Transportation, nearly 700,000 charging stations will be needed nationwide in the US by 2030.   What also underlines the importance of this initiative: it is jointly driven by competitors like Volvo Group, Navistar Inc and Daimler Truck AG – and at the same time it is open to all interested players. In addition to us OEMs, infrastructure developers, electricity suppliers and network operators are also involved. It is a clear signal: we're pushing ahead because we're confident that we'll deliver the right zero-emission vehicles!   The decarbonization of transport is teamwork – also as competitors. I also count politics as part of this team in order to set the right political framework. Because, besides ZEVs and infrastructure, we need cost parity between ZEVs and diesel trucks. To achieve this, we need lower prices for green energy or, to put it the other way around: driving diesel trucks has to become more expensive than driving ZEVs. Only all three factors together (vehicles, infrastructure & cost parity) will make this transformation a reality.   Let's keep this momentum going!
