Travel back in time with the Benz Victoria and its pioneering long-distance journey of 1,000 kilometers 130 years ago! Almost one thousand kilometres by car was truly an adventure in 1894. Baron Theodor von Liebieg was up to the challenge. The car he drove was a Benz Victoria. This was equipped with a pioneering innovation – double-pivot steering. In 1893, Carl Benz developed the principle of double-pivot steering to production maturity and equipped a four-wheeled automobile with it for the first time. The new technology made driving considerably safer and more comfortable than with conventional drawbar steering. In the latter, the entire front axle swivels around a pivot point as in a horse-drawn vehicle. The risk of tipping over is particularly high on tight bends. When you thought, its not a long time ago, where we drive, or our grand- grand parents, driven that car. Its amazing how fast runs the time.

It’s fascinating to look back in history. The Benz Victoria of 1893 was more than just a means of transport; it symbolized freedom and individual mobility in an era when roads were not designed for cars and fuel was procured from pharmacies. Today, cars are not just vehicles; they are extensions of our lifestyle and personality, integral to our daily lives, and equipped with advanced technology tailored to our needs. In my view, this evolution underscores human ingenuity and adaptability, reminding us of our ability to mold technology to our service. With continuous innovation, the journey of the automobile is far from over. Mercedes-Benz AG, I think we’re all eager to see where this journey takes us next.

I love this. It also an example of persisting with a business. My families business (Seadon & Jones) in Victorian Britain built carriages. We exhibited along side Mulliner and Park Ward in London in 1861, other exhibitions in the UK, also Pairs in 1878. They took the easy way out and sold (doh) instead of putting an engine in!

It’s fascinating to think about how groundbreaking the Benz Victoria was 130 years ago! Baron Theodor von Liebieg’s 1,000-kilometer journey truly highlights the innovation and daring spirit of early automotive pioneers. Carl Benz’s introduction of double-pivot steering in 1893 must have been revolutionary for safety and comfort, transforming the driving experience compared to the older drawbar steering. This journey is a remarkable milestone in automotive history! 🚗✨

Always insightful to travel back in time. Makes me think of the all-electric car "Viktoria" Siemens pioneered 🕰️ back in 1905:
