The CSJ Foundation report: Our report found that the vast majority of charitable funding in the UK is skewed towards a small number of large charities at the top, as 85 per cent of all funding goes to just 4 per cent of all registered charities. As 2023 draws to a close, we are reflecting on what has been the busiest year Cranfield Trust has ever had. We have been called upon to assist charities providing a lifeline to large numbers of disadvantaged people during a challenging year for the voluntary sector. Homelessness services, local hospices, a domestic violence helpline, young people’s groups – all examples of the many small to medium-sized charities that our dedicated volunteers and staff have supported. Last year we started 467 new in-depth charity mentoring and consultancy projects alongside our other services. This is a new record for us and a sign of the huge demand for our work. As a support charity, it’s never easy for us to raise funds to deliver this work, so our thanks go to all those who enable us to have a positive impact on the work of small and medium sized charities. Giving Hearts Day came about as a way to raise money for a new hospital that literally ended up saving people's lives or hearts. If you don’t feel like you can go on, talk to someone. If you don’t know what the way forward can possibly be, talk to someone. If you feel like you’ve tried everything else, talk to someone. If you just can’t even imagine feeling better, talk to someone. If you think that this pain has no end, talk to someone. If you think that no-one will understand, talk to someone. If you think talking can’t change anything, talk to someone. If you think that you have to be strong for others but you just can’t do it anymore, talk to someone. Depression can completely rob us of the knowledge that just because we cannot find a solution, a way to feel better, then no solution exists, or will ever exist. That what you feel now is your cast-iron destiny. It’s part of the illness and it’s a lie. You’re not the first. Share the burden. You CAN get better. Talk to someone.
