💼I had a fantastic time at the International Digital Mental Health & Well-Being Conference organized by Ulster University in Derry, Ireland. 🙏🏼 A huge thank you to everyone who organized it. ⭐ Here are the top 3 pieces of information that I learned, along with my thoughts. This is by no means a comprehensive list and doesn’t do justice to all the other great talks. 🔸 Charlotte Blease, PhD: Charlotte discussed the use of Open Notes by doctors in the US, where patients have access to their clinical notes. While doctors find this challenging as it changes the functionality of the notes and increases documentation time, her research has found that it has positive impact on #medicationadherence for people with #severementalillness. Charlotte suggested using AI to help doctors quickly and easily transform their notes into patient-friendly and empathetic language 💡. 🔸 MHRA: It was great to see the MHRA at the event, showcasing their commitment to involving stakeholders. They shared their market research data conducted in collaboration with Woodnewton, which found that #privacy is people's top concern, over efficacy and safety. Eye-opening for someone who’s research is around efficacy and safety. 😅 🔸 Prof. Sandra Bucci shared her work on digital health for psychosis. She spoke about the Multi-arm, Multi-stage (#MAMS) Trial Design, an efficient way to conduct #clinicaltrials with one control arm and multiple intervention arms, where interim analyses are conducted to drop ineffective interventions early, thereby saving resources. Turns out there is one of these being set up for #psychosis by the #UniversityofOxford! Hello Everyone, I'm excited to keep you updated on my progress in developing the AI-powered mental health support platform for my master's dissertation at the University of Leicester! Your support and participation mean everything to me as we embark on this transformative journey together. Project Progress Update:   Milestones Achieved: Prototype Development: We've made tremendous progress on the platform's prototype, with important features like virtual assistants and personalised treatment programmes now operating. User Testing: Initial user testing provided critical feedback that helped us refine the user experience and improve the effectiveness of our AI algorithms. Collaborations: I'm excited to announce collaborations with mental health experts and researchers who will provide vital insights and experience to help improve the platform's effectiveness. Next Steps: Refinement Phase: We are entering a vital stage of platform refinement based on user feedback and expert advice. This includes fine-tuning AI models, optimising user interfaces, and guaranteeing seamless connection with current healthcare systems. Pilot Testing: We are preparing for pilot testing in collaboration with certain healthcare providers and patient groups. This phase will enable us to assess the platform's real-world impact and collect more feedback for iteration. Knowledge Sharing: As part of our commitment to open collaboration and knowledge sharing, I will present project findings at upcoming conferences and publish insights in relevant academic journals. Research is Care. At The Royal, our clients and their loved ones have the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge mental health research, with access to potentially ground-breaking treatments using technology such as rTMS or esketamine, and refined diagnostics using PET/MRI brain imaging and data science for more personalized care, conducted by a team of researchers and clinicians working to improve the lives of those with mental illness. There are limitless research opportunities with the combination of talent and technology that we have at the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research (IMHR) at The Royal, and our research enterprise is growing significantly, having more than doubled our research activity levels in the last 10 years. As we grow, having a clear focus and priorities is a must, and so we have developed our first integrated Strategic Research Plan. We are thrilled to share it with you here today. Our new plan sets out clear goals and objectives for The Royal including the IMHR, allowing everyone across The Royal and in our communities to understand our research path and how our staff, clients and research partners can get involved. As an organization we have prioritized building interdisciplinary research teams including clinicians, scientists, learners and clients and their families. Thus, a clear plan is a key means to invite ideas and participation from all parts of our complex organization, as well as across the research ecosystem. The End and Beginning: Reflections on the ERA Study in Arts Therapies A Landmark Journey Concludes The UK ERA study, a 5-year randomised controlled trial in arts therapies, is reaching its conclusion - a total of 429 clients were recruited and 43 groups were run – an incredible total of over 1700 therapy sessions were delivered as part of the study! With a focus on mental health and contributions from a distinguished team, the study is unparalleled in its scope. We met yesterday to reflect on the journey and to plan the next steps- with thanks to the project leads Dr Catherine Carr(CI), Prof Stefan Priebe (Co-CI) with, Jennifer French (PI), Stephen Sandford (Co-A), Vicky (Vassiliki) Karkou (Co-A), Emma Medlicott (TM) , Claire Grant (PI), Paula Hedderly (PI), Nicola Power (PI), Hon Prof Val Huet (Co-A), Barbara Feldtkeller (Co-A) Simon Hackett (PI), Prof Mike Crawford, Dr Richard Hooper , Prof Borislava Mihaylova, Robert Lock and myself (Co-A) in supportive roles as well as numerous researchers, managers and perhaps most importantly the participants. As we wrap up, a mix of accomplishment, sadness and relief is shared. Testament to the dedication of my esteemed colleagues, which has been instrumental in the study's success. What Comes Next Though the research phase is over, the academic work continues. We're committed to analysing and sharing our findings to benefit educators, clinicians, and researchers - as ever- watch this space! Helpful, actionable work here from American Psychological Association 'There is widespread concern that misinformation poses dangerous risks to health, well-being, and civic life. Despite a growing body of research on the topic, significant questions remain about (a) psychological factors that render people susceptible to misinformation, (b) the extent to which it affects real-world behavior, (c) how it spreads online and offline, and (d) intervention strategies that counter and correct it effectively. This report reviews the best available psychological science research to reach consensus on each of these crucial questions, particularly as they pertain to health-related misinformation. In addition, the report offers eight specific recommendations for scientists, policymakers, and health professionals who seek to recognize and respond to misinformation in health care and beyond.'
