After our Launch Conference in Scunthorpe on Wed 12 June, the #ZeroSuicideSociety #JoinTheDots Tour moves to York on Thurs 13 June. Following our stunning line-up at the ground-breaking Launch Conference, we have another highly impressive line-up in York for a panel discussion on: "Inclusion and Missing Pieces in the (Suicide Prevention) Puzzle". https://lnkd.in/eNVh4JqK Some of these panellists cover groups where there's a higher-than-average suicide rate and yet they're not even mentioned in the National #SuicidePrevention Strategy! Our panel in York on Thurs 13 June is designed to highlight groups of people or issues that are among our Missing Pieces. Anyone who attends can listen to & ask questions to: > Marie Hawes Age UK York - older people have high suicide rates with many preventable suicides, but don't feature in the National Strategy. > Sharron Smith York Carers Centre on the strains on 'hidden carers' & young carers. > Alison Dunn Citizens Advice Gateshead, who recently discovered the lack of support for those witnessing a suicide. > Violet MP Cannon York Travellers Trust representing the Gypsy & Traveller communities who face "the last acceptable form of Racism in the UK". > Pauline Stuchfield City of York Council - with a remit including excluded groups, eg those financial disadvantaged & those facing 'digital exclusion'. > Marc Ewen a mental health advocate with Complex PTSD, who faces systemic discrimination in trying to help people with Complex PTSD because he has Complex PTSD! > Ryan Nicholls Suicide Prevention Lead for Humber & North Yorkshire whose career has included tackling many forms of systemic exclusion. We'll also have Special Guests Bob & Maggie Abrahart talking about their campaign to reduce the numbers of suicides in our higher education institutions, following the (preventable) death of their daughter Natasha. Bob & Maggie will share insights on how to shift the agenda from a 'Missing Piece' to a 'Prominent Piece' inc their campaign getting 128,000 signatures on their petition! Your table can represent: > a place; > an organisation, partnership or network; > a sector or profession; > an issue, driver of suicides or solution for getting the suicide numbers down; > those who are missing pieces and need your support so they can 'be a priority for someone'. --- The following day, Fri 14 June, it's the bike ride around Leeds & Wakefield. What is the power of valuing our differences? How can our differences impact our mental health? These were the topics recently explored at the Lamp Charity - Mental Health Advocacy - Business Club. 💚Valuing differences creates a work environment where people can and want to do their best.  💚Valuing differences means we build self-awareness improve performance, reduce conflict, improve engagement, creativity and problem solving. Whilst running a full time business, Sarah also volunteers as Chair of the Lamp Charity - Mental Health Advocacy - Business Club and is proud to have been a co-founder three and a half years ago. She continues to facilitate and play a significant role in leading the team towards it's continued success. The business members are like minded in their passion for mental health and this meeting was no exception. Janet Thompson OBE gave an inspiring presentation at the most recent meeting - engaging all whilst building awareness of neurodiversity and how this can impact mental health. Her advice centred on making the complex, simple to understand. On being clear in our communication, and being specific in our expectations. Providing clarity in our expectations and communication is a paramount skill for embracing neurodiversity as well as for those who are neurotypical. We can all benefit in the workplace from developing our skills in this area. Ultimately, we are all unique human beings with a valuable part to play, with gifts and strengths that add immense value. To gain the benefits, we need to take steps to understand our differences, which takes time, humility and compassion, and be willing to implement strategies and make adaptations accordingly in order to embrace them. During #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, let’s not forget about the nonprofit workforce. The dedicated individuals in our sector work tirelessly to create positive change, but their well-being often takes a backseat. Here’s how we can collectively support our colleagues and staff: ▶️ Acknowledge the struggle: Nonprofit work can be emotionally taxing. Let’s recognize the challenges our colleagues face and validate their feelings. ▶️ Self-care is vital: Encourage team members to prioritize self-care. Whether it’s taking breaks, practicing mindfulness, or seeking professional help, self-care matters. ▶️ Normalize conversations: Let’s break down the stigma around mental health. Open dialogues create a safe space for sharing experiences and seeking support. ▶️ Resources and support: Provide access to mental health resources like counseling services, and build equitable policies and practices into your organization’s culture. Investing in your team’s well-being pays dividends. ▶️ Gratitude and compassion: Express gratitude for the resilience and empathy of nonprofit workers. A simple thank you can go a long way. Remember, supporting the mental health of our nonprofit workforce is a collective effort. Let’s stand together and foster a healthier, more compassionate community.
