Work life balance is a myth ❌ There is no sweet spot where we get everything perfectly balanced The more you keep thinking that it’s Work vs life The more you are going to get trapped in this idea of ‘balance’ Instead, try thinking of it as a dynamic relationship that you can shape by focusing on the tiny things you do every day. Do I look like I have work life balance? Truthfully speaking, most days I feel out of balance. That’s why I aim for work life fulfillment over work life balance. I believe if my values are aligned at work and at home, and I am acting out of integrity, my best just has to be good enough. I also believe in embracing what we can control and accepting what we can't. My advice to you? Stop trying to be and do it all. If you find yourself burnt out, overwhelmed or struggling to do it all, chances are your values are misaligned and you are living a reactive versus proactive life. You must find the space and time to reconnect with your priorities and make sure your daily actions are in line with your big picture goals. Unsure about your big picture goals? You may need support. Stop talking about work life balance. Instead, practice intentional imbalance. Taken too literally the concept of work life balance is somewhat of a misnomer… I came across the concept of intentional imbalance in the book “The 12 Week Year” and it immediately resonated. At different times in your life you will choose to focus on one area over another. What matters is that this imbalance is an intentional choice. For me, my focus has recently shifted more towards time with my newborn. This has inevitably taken time and energy away from other things including work. But that’s ok, because it’s intentional. For you this may be an increased focus on your health, or your job or your relationship. Whatever is important to you right now, you decide your imbalance. Reevaluate often (every 12 weeks works well) to ensure your imbalance is still intentional. What’s your focus for the next 12 weeks? Let me know in the comments 👇
