An underrated skill in foreign policymaking? Understanding the threat of food insecurity. 🌾   To combat transnational threats, it's crucial to stop looking at food security solely through a humanitarian lens. It is a pivotal factor in understanding global stability and security. What is missing when moving from discussions to solutions?   With a special MSC Food Security Task Force, we want to bring in a guiding element that links the regular high-level conversations at the intersection of food systems and security. Launched at #MSC2024 in February, the MSC Food Security Task Force gathers key stakeholders from different regions and sectors who will convene over the next two years. Next week, the Task Force will gather for the first time at The Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands to begin: 🔷 fostering a forward-looking policy debate 🔷 developing strategies for systemic reforms 🔷 creating action-oriented approaches 🔷 advocating for geopolitically informed solutions   Through this new initiative, the MSC does what it does best: Connecting experts by bridging sectors — creating a discussion space for people who usually don't sit at the same table. It is part of our Human Security Program and made possible by the generous support of the American Friends of the MSC, the Annenberg Foundation, and the Cargill Foundation. A #policy_paper titled "#Food_Security in the #Gulf Cooperation Council Countries during the #Covid-19 Pandemic: Assessing Efforts and Policy Alternatives", issued by the #Security_Research_Center at #NAUSS, identifies future threats to food security in the Gulf region, despite successful efforts of #GCC countries in mitigating the impact of the pandemic on their food systems in terms of food availability and accessibility, stressing the importance of adopting a proactive plan in which various governmental parties participate at national and regional levels to enhance effective response to food security challenges.
