Happy International Women’s Day 2024!
We were delighted to see the United Nation’s IWD day theme of ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress’, as that’s exactly what we’re working towards at Naked Energy.
DEI is very high on our agenda, in fact 2 of our overall company targets are dedicated to it. We hold ourselves responsible for making the company as diverse and inclusive as possible and are taking measurable actions to make this happen.
Gender is one of our top priorities and we’re working on how we support the women at Naked Energy as well as how we encourage more women to join us as we grow.
And what better way to celebrate than with the launch of our women’s employee group ‘The Telkes Group’, named after Maria Telkes, a female pioneer in solar technology and thermal engineering.
The Telkes Group is a place that provides women with both professional and personal development, a space to share experiences, celebrate achievements and overcome the barriers and challenges of being a woman in a male dominated industry. It will also provide the opportunity to educate the wider business on what inclusivity for women looks like, and how we can keep getting better at this.
To hear more about The Telkes Group, along with why being a woman at Naked Energy is so special, take a listen to the most recent episode of Naked Energy’s podcast Hotstuff. Link in comments.
Join Maria Zagorulko, Kateryna Herych and Alex Mitchell, as they talk about both the challenges and positives of being a woman working in a male dominated industry, and why having access to an employee group, even in a small business, is so important.
And from us, the women in Naked Energy, to all the women who are thinking of studying or building careers in STEM or Energy we want to share a quote from Maria Telkes. Speaking at the first International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists in New York in 1964, Maria Telkes told her audience:
“It is the things supposed to be impossible that interest me. I like to do things they say cannot be done.”
There are so many companies, groups and associations that support women and help them in these industries, and whilst there is still more progress to be made, lots of businesses are putting gender diversity at the forefront of their agendas and are making real efforts to invest in women, which is what today is really all about.
