As Pride Month comes to a close, we want to thank our Culture Council leads for building such rewarding and educational experiences. From movie screenings and educational sessions, to sweet treats and historical trivia, each office across the country found its own unique way to participate in the celebrations and foster a welcoming environment. While fun was had, the activities also served as a reminder of the ongoing fight for the civil rights of LGBTQ+ people and the quest for unity and progress towards a more accepting and just world. #Ampersand #MovingTVForward #PrideMonth #DEI

No Credit Union Left Behind | Passionate Advocate for Financial Empowerment | Data and Research Geek | CU Lover for Life | Purpose Chaser | Changemaker
Be an ally. Be Kind. We ALL have one thing in common, we are all human beings first. Yet, so many different people continue to experience discrimination for a multitude of reasons. Financial wellness in the LBGTQ+ community face unique challenges and setbacks-- we all deserve to have access to financial products and services in an equitable environment. The 2024 LGBTQ+ Financial Wellness Report's key findings are a rude awakening that there is much work to be done for better financial inclusion. *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. Both BIPOC and younger (age 18-24) LGBTQ+ adults are even more likely to say they are financially unwell. *Three in ten (30.8%) LGBTQ+ adults say they have experienced discrimination while accessing financial services *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. *Nearly 60% (59.7%) of LGTBQ+ adults have annual household incomes below $75,000. "The data underscore the need for our economic empowerment programs, especially for younger BIPOC LGBTQ+ folks. I hope the data are a call to action for organizations serving our community. Given what we know about who is struggling the most, these organizations have an opportunity to center BIPOC young adults by being culturally responsive, trauma informed, and offering voice and choice to young people.” Maruka Rivers, Director of Economic Empowerment Programs at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation How is your credit union being an ally? I often hear people talking about finding an "authentic" queer person for hiring or wondering how to know if someone is queer. This approach shows a clear misunderstanding of the LGBTQ+ community. If you find yourself asking this question, consider this: in a society that can be queerphobic, why would anyone choose to live a life of exclusion? People don’t claim a queer identity for attention or advantage; they do so because it’s who they truly are. Instead of focusing on whether someone is "authentically" queer, focus on creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels safe to be themselves. Educate yourself about the LGBTQ+ community, challenge your biases, and foster a culture of acceptance and support. This is how we move forward in understanding and respecting one another. ❤️ #PrideMonth #BrewingInclusion

Many banned books address LGBTQ+ themes, but these stories are essential for helping young readers understand identity, inclusion, and love. By banning them, we limit children’s ability to connect with or empathize with different experiences. 🌈 Let’s read and share LGBTQ+ inclusive books with our children! #BannedBooks #LGBTQStories #FreedBetweenThePages #LiteracyisLiberation #LetsGetLit #DreamsKC
