As a health system, you ignore equity at your own peril. Closing equity gaps reduces avoidable costs and utilization. But more importantly, closing equity gaps improves outcomes, quality of life and entire communities. As we lean into reducing healthcare disparities there are partners we can call upon to leverage their unique resources and access to help move the needle in the right direction. https://cstu.io/5c0537 #HealthEquity #Cancer #FQHC #Equity

There is a lot to unpack in this article, "Substantial Disparities In Cancer Care Associated With Patients’ Income Levels" https://lnkd.in/gJGJDGSQ Gross disparities in healthcare exist. And they are striking. Quality, accessible health care is NOT available to all individuals in the US and the disparities in access to quality care can be attributed to racism, ageism, sexism, socioeconomic status, and a variety of other isms and intersectionalities that create disgusting differences in survival outcomes and quality of life. Full Stop. But one of the lines in the article that caught my eye was, "low income was one of several key factors associated with less use of immunotherapy." Immunotherapy use may not be the best guidepost to judge cancer care disparities. Immunotherapy is an incredible advancement in the treatment of cancer and, if immunotherapy is warranted, it absolutely should be offered and made accessible. HOWEVER, immunotherapies are also grossly overused in the US and not without consequence. We need to be measuring our ability to close the access to quality care gap by examining elements of care that SHOULD be available to all - like quality screening, timely approval of treatments, comprehensive biomarker testing, and supportive care therapies, not by subtly perpetuating a societal myth that immunotherapy is a cancer cure all. #CancerCare #HealthEquity #HealthDisparities Sanford Jeames Barbara Segarra-Vazquez Grace Cordovano, PhD, BCPA Abigail Johnston Roberta A Albany Valencia Robinson Janice Cowden Kelly Shanahan Jill Feldman Eugene Manley, Jr., PhD Gitte Henssel Joergensen Beverly A. Our healthcare system in the United States is broken in a lot of ways. Getting a cancer diagnosis shouldn't mean that you go into debt for the rest of your life. When you're trying to fight cancer, the last thing you should be worried about is whether or not you can afford it. This is why health equity is so important to me. When we tackle inequities, we see better patient outcomes. “Cancer survival rates over recent years have shown improvement across races and ethnicities, so by acknowledging and addressing barriers to care, further improvements toward equitable access, treatment, and outcomes can be realized for all,” says Lori Pierce. If we want to see even more positive change when it comes to cancer care, we have to see an embrace of health equity throughout all medical care. It's also important to note that we can't only focus on increasing accessibility to care... we have to also make sure that care is unbiased and that healthcare providers are aware of inequities that affect medical care overall. #CancerCare #HealthEquity #Healthcare #CancerPreventionMonth

There is a gap in cancer care as we know it. The gap leads missed opportunities for individuals with cancer to take charge of their long-term health, it means that teams miss out on building resilience and a positive culture around wellbeing, and it leaves organisations unable to provide the most effective strategies for their workforce. The ‘gap-filler' is integrated cancer rehabilitation and health coaching. It is supported by compelling evidence, proven cost effectiveness, and has potential to enhance both quality and quantity of life for individuals affected by cancer. Integrated cancer rehabilitation and health coaching are vital catalysts for health, these are too often missed by medical protocols and supportive care pathways. We aren’t certain why they are missed. It’s not because of a lack of evidence; we have that in abundance! At CGoals we see that the challenge often lies in implementing tailored solutions that seamlessly integrate rehabilitation and behavioural change science into medical healthcare teams, organisations, and workplaces. Perhaps the too-hard basket is where the implementation of such transformative services gets stuck! That’s where we can help. CGoal’s commitment to delivering impactful outcomes in cancer care comes from an immersion in cancer rehabilitation solutions, health system innovations, and integrative oncology care. CGoals can provide carefully tailored solutions, delivered with an equity lens, to fill the gap in cancer care for individuals, teams, organisation and the community. #righttorehab #getunstuck #healthcareequity #integrativeoncology #commonsenseoncology #healthcaresolutions
