To businesses looking to hire a videographer / editor out there: these skills take a lifetime to master! This is professional, creative work that takes time, cutting-edge technical savvy, a massive investment in expensive equipment, huge interpersonal skills, interview skills (psychology), an eye for light, a 6th sense for composition, an ear for music & pacing, AND the ability to tell a good story. So yes, writing. Stop thinking you can hire some kid to give you quality for $16.55/hr straight out of school. I'm seeing it a lot from HR departments and you're making a critical mistake. Not only is it harmful to your brand long term, but it's illogical and you wouldn't do it with ANY other component of your business. Most of your other staff don't have half of the qualifications or skills your high-end video professional carries. Why do this with the image you present to the world?

I don't know why people think there's a career path from Assistant Editor to Editor. 😂 There isn't. They are two different jobs. It's like saying how long do I have to be a dishwasher before I get promoted to waiter or waitress. In order to get a job as an Editor 🧙♀️🧙♂️ you have to *BE* an Editor. The only reason someone would hire an Assistant Editor to edit is because THEY ALREADY KNOW YOU and they're going to give you a chance to blow it for their business. Nobody's going to say well they've been assisting for 6 years, so let me hire them to edit. In my case, I skipped that phase entirely and my first job was AS AN EDITOR 🦸♂️ for music videos that aired on MTV, VH1, etc. Therefore, when I went to other companies and offered to assist them, they looked at my reel and knew that I had completed IMPORTANT programs for IMPORTANT people and they hired me to do the same thing for them. 🤝 ==== If your goal is to move from Assistant Editor to Editor, what you have to do is find things TO EDIT so you can show your work to someone who needs the same service that you've proved you can provide. You have to do BOTH at the same time. Assist and Edit. The only jobs you're going to get from being an Assistant Editor are more Assistant Editor jobs. #Business #VideoEditing #FirstWorldProblems

Drawn from my experiences working in the film, music, and sports industries, I deliver dynamic keynotes, captivating presentations, and engaging workshops that not only help businesses succeed but change people's lives.
Looking back at my journey from a freelance Production Assistant (PA) in film to where I am today in the sports industry, Tommy Lasorda's words seem fitting: "In baseball and in business, there are three types of people. Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened." While my time as a PA may be in the rearview mirror, the lessons learned have become the foundation of my success. In the film industry, I realized early on that simply doing the bare minimum wouldn't advance my career. Distinguishing myself meant going beyond the standard PA duties. While some PAs were content with their roles, and others grumbled about the work and long hours, I saw an opportunity to advance my position in the film industry. Anticipating needs, taking on additional responsibilities, and actively seeking ways to contribute beyond expectations became my game plan. Fast forward to today, I've transitioned from entry-level production assistant to being a key player in various professional industries. In business, as in film, success often belongs to those who step up, take charge, and drive towards their goals. What valuable lessons have you carried forward from your early career days? 🎬 Interested in a game-changing opportunity? "Person helping video editors get clients in 35000" 🌍 Yesterday, while scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled upon an ad promising just that. Intrigued, I booked a call, which cost around ₹300. After chatting with the individual and thoroughly checking their profile, they seemed genuine. However, the hefty price tag of ₹35,000 put a damper on my plans, especially since I recently switched jobs in February after leaving my previous one in January. 💸 While I may not be able to invest right now, I'm hopeful about joining soon. What's your opinion on this? Have any of you ever considered taking a course like this? Share your thoughts in the comments! #VideoEditing #videoeditor #videoeditors #videoedit

Professionals in my connections. As a video editor, I actively get dms from companies and individuals who need a video editor or someone in the similar position. My schedule is completely full and there is no capacity to take even a single project anymore. I thought about it for a while and I have an idea. I'd like to share those opportunities with you guys. If you're interested just share relevant information about yourself (like your niche, experience, portfolio and stuff) no need to get creative with the comments because honestly I don't read them. And if someone's requirements matches your details, I'll recommend your profile to them. *Please note that I am NOT hiring and it's just recommendations. You have to carefully choose who you work for and all the necessary measures to ensure you get paid for your work.* #videoeditor

Video Editor | Taking your videos to next level | Founder - Seek Cinema Studio | Content Manager - The Jedburgh Podcast
We put up a job post for a video editor on LinkedIn, and the response was overwhelming! In just 24 hours, we received over 50 applications and 65 comments. But here's the thing—we didn't know which candidate was the perfect fit for the job. So, we decided to do something different to see who really cares about video editing. We asked candidates to send their portfolios to [email protected], but many ended up sending DMs or commenting on the post. Guess what? Only a handful of candidates followed this instruction. This small step showed us who took the time to read the job post carefully and who really wanted the job. It’s not just about the qualifications on paper; it's about the attention to detail and the effort candidates are willing to put in. This little trick helped us narrow down our options and find those who truly stand out. Sometimes, it's the small things that make a big difference! Have you ever tried something similar in your hiring process? #Videoediting #Hiringtips #Jobapplications #Attentiontodetail #Hiringhack #Jobsearch #LinkedInjobs #Hiringprocess #Findingtherightfit

You can't handle everything by Yourself. (And you hate it too) Delegating tasks > one of the most efficient ways I've found to make MORE Time⏰ This is the same lesson I'm trying to teach myself. Again And Again! Getting "All The Money" by Myself is $#!T This is how Money actually works; - Help others to make More Money. - Keep a Cut for yourself. - Distribute the cut into a certain percentage of those who were delegated for the task. - Reach out to More People. - Help those More People make More Money. Your Prospects get $$ Your Delegates get $$ You get $$ Easiest Way to; - Save Time. - Grow Wealth. And, this is why I'm seeking video editors for my current projects. Helping Real Estate Agents Nationwide Create a Marketing Plan, Make Video Content, And Sell More Homes
I’m sure not everyone will agree. But in my experience over the top edits can detract from what people are saying. Especially if you’re not working with an editor who is trying to capture and communicate you and your message. That doesn’t mean don’t produce. I am all for people raising the bar of what is possible. But only if it is in service of the message. Not the editor. Message before Media. #videography #videoediting #socialmedia

Raise your hand if you're the sole comms function in your organisation/department. 🙋♀️ It can be a tough job, but like any, it has its pros and cons. You sometimes lack support but get autonomy and oversight. You have limited expertise and perspective in comms but are surrounded by people from different walks of life with deep and unique insight. You're expected to be a full-stack generalist (aka writer-publicist-web developer-social media manager-content creator-graphic designer-videographer) but are always doing something different and developing your skills. It can be frustrating. The good thing is you have top-notch communication skills, so be sure to let the right people know how you can be better supported. 🙏 And if you ever want to vent about all that and more, you know where I am (probably trying to figure out how to work a gimbal). 🙂 #Marcoms #Comms
