Remember the PepsiCo commercial with Kendal Jenner from a few years ago? A multi-billion dollar multinational company put out what can only be described as "the biggest f*ck up" ad in recent times. How many executives, managers, and marketers saw this and thought, "Perfect." This is what happens when you don't trust the process and want quick results for cheap. Who cares about market research, and what's really the point of getting outside agencies/consultants? "F*ck the process, quicker results mean getting paid quicker." is something I can imagine the leader of Pepsi's in-house creatives thought while pushing the commercial through. And people really got paid to make this... All I want to say is don't be like Pepsi. Do the necessary market research, and don't worry about taking an extra day to have an outside influence review your work. It'll save you a lot of time and embarrassment. And PepsiCo, next time, send me whatever you want to release before actually putting it out there. I'll let you know if heads need to roll. I'll even give you a big discount. Anything to not have to see such absolute garbage again.

Coke was the 100+ year old established product, so Pepsi became the choice of a new generation. McDonald's was fast and mass-produced, Burger King was flame-broiled and put forward the message "have it your way". Who is your biggest competitor and what is their strongest attribute? Determine what the opposite is, and ask yourself if you can authentically own it. You might find a winning strategy.
