The generational gap feels like it is widening in workplaces. And yet it doesn’t have to. I believe a multigenerational workforce is essential for creativity, joy and growth. It does require intentionality however for a thriving culture to be created. Three suggested strategies for organisations wanting to grow in this area includes: 1. Leadership to foster openness / curiosity and live out the organisational values 2. Encourage mentoring programmes so learning and sharing can take place between different generations 3. Equip managers with the skills to manage multigenerational teams and to role model well What strategies would you add? As an empath, I draw inspiration from global figures whose empathy has catalysed profound social change. The work of individuals like Malala Yousafzai, Jacinda Ardern, and Bryan Stevenson—understanding and acting on the needs of others. Malala's advocacy for education, Ardern's compassionate leadership, and Stevenson's fight for justice in the U.S. legal system illustrate how empathy can bridge divides, heal communities, and inspire great change. I believe these leaders have shown that genuine empathy not only acknowledges the struggles of others but also commits to actionable solutions to address those challenges. At tipped, we see technology as a tool for amplifying this empathetic impulse, providing a tangible way for individuals to support those whose hard work enhances our daily lives yet often goes unrecognised. By making tipping easier, we aim to promote a culture of appreciation and financial support for people from all walks of life, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society.
