Success as a nonprofit is all about community partnership! We were provided the opportunity for a donation of 20+ suitcases (and a full tub of toiletries); which, is not our exact "lane" when working with foster youth; so, we brought them to the amazing OCJ Kids for foster youth aging out of group homes. Forget the suitcase! 🧳 Have you ever seen ads or heard about programs that supply kids in foster care with suitcases to make it so they can move with more dignity than throwing all of their belongings in a trash bag? That's such a tangible concept to imagine - of course, kids shouldn't have their things in garbage bags. But those ads always make us wonder "What if there were a healthy, familiar grown-up attached to that suitcase?" Isn't that what they really need? Someone consistent they can trust and who knows their story. ✅ Someone who knows what book they're on in the Wings of Fire series, ✅ who knows their favorite type of muffin (not blueberry, cuz mushy fruit=gross), ✅ someone who knows their favorite song ...someone who knows them, and will show up no matter what? Over 113,000 of these children are eligible for adoption and they will wait, on average, almost three years for an adoptive family. We work with several agencies throughout the country to connect these children to an adoptive family. By keeping track of data, these partner agencies can connect the children and family together. There are many heartwarming stories about how keeping track of data can accomplish this goal. I really like this campaign for foster care #donateyoursmalltalk . A lot of times when people think about charity, they think about monetary donations, so people who cannot or do not want to donate might mentally check out when charity comes up. But an issue like placing foster children requires so much help beyond the monetary. When you take a second to think about the stats in these PSAs, it's difficult to look away: Over 400,000 kids are in foster care right now Over 700 kids enter the foster care system every day Every year, 25,000 children age out of the foster care system and will be completely on their own It takes 34 months on average for a foster kid to get adopted Peppering in important topics like this in our regular conversation has a limitless ROI. Maybe you're not the person to volunteer, foster or donate monetarily, and maybe the first person you bring a topic like this up to won't be either, but the more that important information like this spreads around, the more likely it is that the people who are ready to help will find out about it and match with a cause that they feel ready and compelled to donate their time and abilities to. https://lnkd.in/gnGjaDHN
