With our aim of being Net Zero by 2030, we're not stopping there, so here's a sneak peek at some of our new aims ⬇️ Want to know more? Integrating Sustainability into Hospitality Education: A Necessity in Today's World As environmental changes accelerate and awareness of our ecological footprint grows, sustainability is no longer optional-it's essential. The hospitality industry, deeply tied to natural resources, must evolve to meet these challenges. This evolution begins with education. By embedding sustainability into hospitality curricula, we prepare future leaders to think holistically and act responsibly. From energy conservation and waste management to ethical sourcing and green design, students learn the tools they need to drive positive change. Beyond theory, hands-on experiences and community engagement ensure they grasp the real-world impact of their efforts. The future of hospitality lies in sustainability. Let's equip the next generation to lead the way. #SustainableHospitality #GreenEducation #FutureLeaders

Excited to Join Cornell at Climate Week NYC! Almost ten years since COP21 and the Paris Agreement…where do we stand? In a book first published 30 years ago (“The Ecology of Commerce”), Paul Hawken wrote: “…the single most damaging aspect of the present economic system is that the expense of destroying the earth is largely absent from the prices in the marketplace – a vital and key piece of information is therefore missing in all levels of the economy” (1994, p.13). Although there has been some (minor) progress in addressing these externalities e.g. Scope 3 emissions, as we are still at the beginning of understanding, let alone measuring, the true cost of externalities in tourism and hospitality. Enters sustainable finance, tying economic growth to sustainable development. But are we getting it right? Are financial innovations sufficient to catalyze the deep transformation needed in the hotel and lodging industry? This is only one topic of the many discussion rounds at this year’s Sustainability in Travel, Tourism, and Hospitality Roundtables co-organized by Cornell University, the Cornell Center for Hospitality Research, the Cornell Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise, and the Business of Sustainability Theme during the NY Climate Week on September 23-24 (see: https://lnkd.in/e_k9wWTA) I am back speaking at the Cornell Roundtables and excited to meet leaders who are passionate about finding solutions for our industry. Learning and growing through new experiences with practical application in the real world.
Public Relations and Anthropology student | Public Relations Leadership Intern | Brother of Alpha Phi Omega
Hello LinkedIn! As my spring 2024 semester abroad in London approaches its end, I wanted to reflect on one of the amazing trips I got to go on. I was fortunate enough to participate in the pre-semester Signature Seminar- Sustainability on Trial: Environmental Justice in Northern Europe. This course included a 10-day intensive field study across three countries: Sweden, Finland and Norway. During this time we engaged with related reading materials and participated in in-depth class discussion that enhanced the first-hand experiences and knowledge gained in the field. As a group we explored the 'green' infrastructure of Stockholm, Sweden; learned about Indigenous knowledge and governance in Inari, Finland; and engaged with ideas concerning the relationship between natural landscapes and tourism infrastructure in Flåm, Norway. All that we learned was enhanced by the once-in-a-lifetime experiences along the way. I can now say that I have ice-skated through Stockholm, toured the Finnish Sámi Parliament, pet reindeer, gone husky mushing, saw the Aurora Borealis, snowshoe hiked on the Norwegian glacierscapes, went ice fishing, and jumped in a freezing cold fjord in January. I can not adequately put into words how grateful I am that I was able to participate in this seminar and expand my thinking regarding sustainability, environmental justice, global climate issues and the politics that go along with it. I am truly so thankful that what I have learned and experienced will forever stay with me! While I was sad that the 10-day excursion was over, it was then time to begin my semester studying and living in London! If you would like to learn more about my experience during this course and how we engaged with themes of sustainability, please visit the blog I created for one of the post-excursion assignments. https://lnkd.in/eAc8GaxP

President at Junction Consulting President at eLearningU Author of The Brief newsletter BIV 40 under 40
I can't believe that I get to be a part of this. In just a couple of weeks, eLearningU is going to be bringing together tourism experts from around the world to lead a 4 week course on what might be the most important topic in our industry right now: Sustainability. We're going beyond the buzzword to ask the questions: What does it mean to be a sustainable tourism business, what is the market opportunity, and how do we build real plans to turn these ideas into real businesses? And for the first time, I won't be the lead instructor. The incredible Jonny Bierman 🌎🍃will be taking the reins, and the guest list that he's brought together for our students is mind blowing. If you work in tourism and have ever been curious about how you can lean into the sustainability market, then you're going to want to check this one out.
We all know that sustainability is important, but how do we turn that opportunity into action? In this course you’ll learn how to identify market opportunities, how to develop sustainable tourism products, and how to bring those products to market. This just in: The course will now include not 7, but 10 incredible sustainability experts from all over the world (check out the course page in our bio to see who they all are). This small group course will be delivered over 8 live sessions where you will learn directly from experts while gaining experience from hands-on exercises. At the end of the course, you’ll earn a dual certification in Sustainable Tourism thanks to our partnership with EIG Business School. Spots are limited, so secure your seat today: https://lnkd.in/g_Wgbgjf Conner Galway Junction Consulting

“Moving sustainability from the goal post to the starting line implies that hotel businesses are no longer competing on sustainability credentials. The differentiation among hotel businesses becomes the scale and ambition of their restorative and regenerative practices.” (Legrand, Inversini, Laeis & Hindley (2024). From Sustainable to Net Positive Hospitality. In V. Ratten (Ed.), Encyclopedia of Business Management, Elsevier – in-press) Catching up with Glenn Mandziuk MEDes. A big step forward: the creation of a World Academy for Sustainable Hospitality tailoring professional sustainability education across all departments and levels within hotel organizations.
