Aligning profit to purpose in the tech sector could create new opportunities to advance societal interests - and create new power for individuals and communities. This isn't a conversation to be left to private sector institutions alone - civil society and philanthropy have a key role to play in promoting the equitable ownership of technologies, championing human dignity and shared ownership. In Inside Philanthropy, our President Vilas Dhar highlights the importance of building new strategies for active advocacy, community building, and technology mastery inside of civil society- and gives us a path to a more inclusive future: https://lnkd.in/g4S4Dm_X #EquitableTech #InclusiveInnovation Vilas Dhar Inside Philanthropy

Can philanthropies fuel alignment between expensive AI innovation and the public good? Vilas Dhar thinks philanthropic intervention could become a “missing middle” in providing inspiration, training, education, and support to those who want to scaffold emerging tech so that it supports prosocial development. What do you think? What can philanthropic orgs do to provoke tech innovators to work for human and planetary flourishing? #techforgood

Love this article because we area at a pivotal moment in history. There will be a time when all of will say to the next generation I remember a time when there was no AI. To ensure we are good stewards to that next generation, as AI rapidly evolves, it’s crucial to use it for societal benefit rather than solely for corporate profit. That all voices are considered and to ensure AI solutions ultimately foster an inclusive and equitable AI-driven future. #AI #Leadership

A strategic, creative leader with two decades of experience in philanthropy, including technology implementation, program strategy and execution, and foundation operations.
Thanks Dawn Wolfe for sharing information about the Technology Association of Grantmakers' recently released Framework for Responsible AI Adoption in Philanthropy. The development of the framework could not have been possible without the invaluable contributions of 300 experts from the philanthropy field, our partner Project Evident, and TAG's former executive director Chantal Forster, MPP. Though the landscape around AI is continuing to evolve rapidly, I am hopeful that leveraging this tool can be a useful first step for foundations considering #AI. With informed optimism and intentionality, the sector can harness the potential of AI #technology while centering humans and staying true our missions in the process. For more information about TAG's AI work, see https://www.tagtech.org/AI.
For Inside Philanthropy, here's a look at Technology Association of Grantmakers guide to help #foundations and other #funders determine how, and even if, they want to adopt #AI tools. With many thanks to Jean Westrick and Ngozika (Gozi) Egbuonu, DBH-C, MA, MS for their time and input on this one. From the piece: "The bottom line is that, yes, it will take a lot of work to get AI adoption right. But that work is going to have to be done — either on the front end, with systematic planning and implementation, or at the back end, with crisis management when things go wrong. The philanthrosphere has a big opportunity, given how new this technology is, to set an example for other sectors." #philanthropy #nonprofits #technology

Trainer, Consultant & Nonprofit Innovator in digital transformation & workplace wellbeing, recognized by Fast Company & NTEN Lifetime Achievement Award.
Excellent piece in the Stanford Social Innovation Review by Brigitte Hoyer Gosselink and Kevin Barenblat on how nonprofits are leveraging AI with the help of social entrepreneurs and funders -- called "AI-Powered Nonprofits" AI-powered nonprofits (APNs) are advancing solutions to many social problems, including driving progress towards all 17 SDGs. Three goals that stand out with potential to be transformed by AI are SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Good visual of the landscape analysis that look at 100 use cases in the tech-for-good ecosystem, and interviewed dozens of builders. Keep in mind: * Focuses on AI to advance impact and outcomes for external stakeholders. It does not focus on internal use (for individual tasks or organizational efficiency). (Big AI versus little ai) * This is just the beginning and there will be new and different use cases. * Use-cases can be applied across different issues https://lnkd.in/gbNMjFDG

From start-ups to enterprises, businesses are reimagining how to better serve customers with the advent of #AI. For NGOs with limited resources and enormous responsibilities, the question is: Will AI help or hurt their causes? Based on the recent Lenovo Foundation AI for Social Impact webinar, there is every reason to believe that, when undertaken deliberately, AI can help NGOs achieve significantly more, and do so without prohibitive investment. Backing the builders of #AI for humanity is imperative for creating a tech-enabled future that works for everyone. Our partners at Fast Forward share our mission to build AI capacity for nonprofits and increase awareness of the #TechForGood ecosystem. In a recent op-ed, FFWD Co-founder and President Kevin Barenblat outlines how nonprofits are using AI to drive economic opportunity, advance critical treatments in healthcare, provide quality education in low-resourced communities, improve the livelihoods of rural farmers, and more.
