In honor of Engineers Week, ACEC/MW polled our Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, and Task Force Leaders to see how many of them knew of these famous engineers. Follow along on LinkedIn each day for the question of the day and their responses. How many would you get right? ACEC/MW would like to recognize and thank our Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Engineers. In their honor, we asked our leaders this first question: Which electrical engineer wrote a textbook in the field of power engineering called Circuit Analysis of A-C Power Systems? a. Tony Stark b. Nikola Tesla c. Edith Clarke d. Thomas Edison Comment below with your answer and check back tomorrow to see if you were correct. #acecmw #engineers #engineering #engineersweek2024 #mepengineering #electricalengineering #powerengineering

What do students say about Gonzaga T&D’s online Distribution System Design course? 541 Distribution System design. 8 Weeks. Fully online. > “Throughout this course I was able to apply a lot of what I learned while at work and that gave me more confidence as an engineer, knowing how to size laterals and knowing how to calculate them.” > “There were several design techniques I didn't know before taking this course. I was able to get a better understanding of tension calculations, pole inspections, buckle points, etc. from this course.” > “Transformer wye and delta configurations and phase shift were most helpful.” > “(The course) presented very practical technical information that will allow for better designs for clients.” > “The fuse, power quality, capacitor module was one of the best of all the courses I've taken.” Course begins August 26. You may take up to two classes as a non-matriculated student. What are high voltage and dielectrics engineers, and why does there appear to be fewer of them than in the past? Why is this happening? Where are the young engineers being trained? Why are they not coming into their classic roles in the industry? Who is going to pick up the banner and carry forward the high voltage engineering for the next generation? This is a good article from Nancy Frost, Ph.D. sharing some of her thoughts on this topic.
What is a High Voltage Engineer? Who are They? Where are They?

For National Engineering Month, we’re asking various staff members to reflect on the future of engineering. Today, Senior Mechanical Engineer, Halley O'Byrne shares his perspective: “I’m amazed at how quickly things change for the better when it seems like they are not changing fast enough. We are in a climate crisis and the engineering community has been responding with some promising results. The installed costs of renewables have come down dramatically over the past decade. The prevalence of heat pumps and electrified building HVAC systems has skyrocketed. Building envelope performance standards have dramatically improved in many locales. With the backing of society and with the right mindset and intent, I am hopeful that our seemingly insurmountable challenges this century will be tackled by our best and brightest engineers.” For National Engineering Month, let's continue to explore diverse perspectives shaping the future of engineering! #NationalEngineeringMonth #EngineeringInnovation #FutureOfEngineering #Communication #Sustainability #Reliability
