My mom, as a matter of fact, is getting up in�� years. And so having the opportunity to care�� for her not only as a daughter but as a provider�� and see both sides of Gerontology and medicine,�� both as a provider and even as a patient and a�� patient advocate, really just kind of interests�� me. I like the balance of the quality of life and�� quantity and addressing those goals. And for me�� it's just a challenge that I've always enjoyed.�� Primary services I'll be offering are what we call�� Medicare recertification. So patients that are�� living in facilities such as nursing facilities�� or long-term care, making sure that they either�� are eligible for those services or hopefully if�� they've improved, that they're able to go back home�� or step down. So matching the patient to the needs�� that they have and ensuring that we're meeting�� their quality of life goals as well. When I see a�� patient, checking how are they feeling, are their�� medications going, do they have any concerns,�� do their family have any concerns, looking at�� long-term prognosis, and are we meeting those�� goals. But also acutely, things always come up,�� even in our own day-to-day lives. So as those�� issues arise or those concerns arise. And the�� facility is addressing it with the goal�� that we're able to keep the loved one, your loved�� one or the patient at the facility, versus coming�� into the ER or hospital every time if that�� situation is warranted, we can obviously manage�� that and sometimes make that transition a lot�� smoother for patients. I think the most rewarding�� part of my job is when, not only hearing patients�� say thank you, but seeing that satisfaction or�� hearing them say wow I've never thought about�� something that way or now I really understand�� what's going on. And a lot of times, just seeing�� them succeed and empowering them, giving them�� tools and supporting them. Extraordinary Care�� to me means not only what I can do clinically�� as far as people are familiar with listening to�� somebody's��using a stethoscope or using various�� medical equipment. For me it's really taking that�� time to listen to my patients, getting to know my�� patients, their families, like I said what their�� goals are, their expectations, and how can I meet�� them so that we're making this a team effort�� as opposed to me sitting here telling them what�� we need to do. So for me, Extraordinary Care is�� always going that extra above and beyond and truly�� listening to our patients and making them�� feel empowered in their healthcare decisions.

I recently read "The Cleveland Clinic Way" by Toby Cosgrove and came across a quote that resonated with me. In the book, Cosgrove emphasizes the importance of humanizing patient care. "Patients may not be able to measure clinical outcomes, but they can certainly form clear judgments about their experience. They recognize differences in the quality of care and whether they feel cared for.
