Mutual respect in the workplace Like the meme? I've been on both sides. Though I hope I've never made a client feel that way. I write advertorials, feature articles, and interviews for a magazine and when I hit submit, I know that I can look forward to my editor making it even better. Even though she's told the publisher not to worry when she's away as my writing "is print-ready." I trust her. She's (almost) always write. I mean, right. Almost because not everything's objective. We might have some spirited discussion but it's always respectful. And it's made me so grateful that other writers and copywriters trust me with their babies. I treat their work gently, respectfully, but not timidly. As one client said, he appreciates that I challenge him. Part of my job, and it's a fun part, is fact-checking. Yes, I've made some good saves which I won't share here. I'll just say that the term you used doesn't translate into American English. Or, this is the actual science; you may want to rewrite. And, this is the actual spelling of that historical character's name. Stuff like that. Trust me: you want to #RespectYourElditors. It's mutual.

You are as good as your ability to #communicate. Just had an eye-opening experience connecting with a service provider, with a strong online presence- good content: thanks to her content writer. Despite her technical prowess, she struggled to articulate how she could assist me, drowning in 'ums' and 'vague' layering of statements. It's a reminder: technical skills get you so far, but mastering communication, a vital people skill, propels you beyond plateaus. Communication is key!

But when we want to say the right thing to the right person it can be tricky. A while back we created a Core Messaging Matrix for the brilliant Christina A. and her team at TASIS The American School in England We wanted to provide a single practical document that allowed anyone in the organisation to know what to say when speaking to key audience groups, bringing: ✨Consistency ⚡Resonance 💡Efficiency It's a communications quick-start guide and was the result of many hours of stakeholder interviews. It's a piece of work I am really proud of. We created a marketing document for non-marketers by transposing the floating concepts of language and emotion into a down to earth user manual.

One of the things I appreciate most are the metrics and insights it provides, including common errors, feedback, and general data about your writing. Based on the 1.3 million words of mine that Grammarly analyzed in 2023, I was labeled the "Free Spirit." "In 2023 your communication was informal, appreciative, and curious.Being buttoned-up? B-O-R-I-N-G. The Free Spirit tends to take a casual, conversational approach to writing. Their approachable way of wording things makes their peers feel comfortable and lets their million-dollar personality shine through every word they write."
