#ThisIsTextron: More than eight decades ago, a small aircraft company started in Wichita, Kansas, to do what others said could not be done — to build a monoplane that used a wing without supporting struts or braces. When the Cessna All Purpose aircraft took off August 13, 1927, the aviation world was forever changed. For much of the mid-to-late 20th century, the Cessna brand was one of the highest-volume and most diverse of general aviation aircraft in the world. Today, the Cessna brand, part of Textron Aviation, remains one of the most known private aircraft brands in the world with a wide breadth of products finding solutions for the novice to most advanced aviator. Senior Technical Fellow/P&W | Composites | Private Pilot | USAF Vet | Living and Loving the LaminateLife 🙂 ✈
An American Eagle Airlines Embraer E175 checks its control surfaces before departing Reagan National airport just across the Potomac River from Washington D.C. First is the rudder (right then left then neutral), then the ailerons/spoilers (left then right then neutral), then the elevators (down then up then neutral) and finally the flaps start to come down. The control surfaces each have a specific role to play in keeping the plane flying in the direction and at the speed the pilot wants. Rudder controls yaw (moves the nose left or right). Ailerons control roll (raising or lowering or leveling wingtips). Elevators control pitch (move nose up or down). Those three working together are what turn the plane. The flaps are there to change the effective shape of the wings to allow the plane to take off in shorter distances and to land at slower speeds. Amazing to think of those small surfaces moving such large #aircraft. Maybe even more amazing is that the Wright Brothers figured out the basic control surfaces (and we're still using the same concepts) more than 120 years ago! (They warped their wings to achieve the same effect as ailerons.) American Airlines #LaminateLife #aerodynamics #aviation #HowWeFly

The Cessna 680 Sovereign is a great member of the successfully growing family of Cessna business jets. But how did it happen that Cessna, known for its general aviation workhorses, created the largest business jet fleet? The post World War II economic boom created the demand in faster transportation for executives and businessmen. The existing options were limited and airlines couldn't offer the needed flexibility in scheduling and access to smaller airports. Cessna and Beechcraft had already made their name in single piston props and even offered some twin engine options but the real fooray into the market was brought by the jet options. First business jets with a full single aisle cabin like Lockheed Jetstar, North American Sabreliner, Learjet 23 made it possible and proved that business jets can offer many opportunities. So while Beechcraft chose the way with turboprops and created its successful King Air family, Cessna decided to go jets and launched its long development of the Citation family which eventually became the world's largest family of business jets #aviation #businessjet #cessna #aviationhistory #airplane #aircraft #businessaviation

One of the engines of an United Boeing 737-924 plane (N31412) flying from Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport ,Texas to Fort Myers (RSW), Florida caught fire midair on 04 March. Aircraft's left engine started spitting flames with loud popping sounds 12,000 feet off the ground. Aircraft powered by CFM56-7B26 engines , returned back for a safe landing on Runway 27 of the Houston Airport (IAH). We are not brokers, and we're not a charter company. We are more, in contemporary Yiddish parlance, like a macher for aviation. With this in mind, we have an opportunity, for the right party, to downsize an aircraft without sacrificing all of that room and range. One of our vast and effective brigade of aviation professionals has an opportunity to acquire a larger jet, in the Falcon 900EX/Challenger 650 size category, however they wish to sell their Hawker 850 first. The 850 has the cabin of a mid-size jet, excellent range, and the manufacturer pedigree to impress. It is, for all intents and purpose, a beautiful aircraft. There in lies the opportunity, and I'll leave it at that. #privatejet #privateaviation #businessaviation *The photo does not represent the exact aircraft, but does the type.

Did anybody manage to get over to Southport for the airshow this weekend? Anybody going to Farnborough? What about RIAT? Our CEO Jerrod Hartley has featured in the Aerospace Magazine Farnborough Edition, and it's well worth a read if you have a bit of time, and although he won't be in personal attendance at Farnborough, he will be down in Fairford for the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT 2024) at the end of the week. https://lnkd.in/ek-UQhJK An airshow is a great opportunity to stand back and appreciate why we do what we do. Seeing these great machines in action is impressive, but also an opportunity for reflection. It wasn't really that long ago since Wilbur and Orville Wright created the first successful heavier than air flying machine, the Wright Flyer, in 1903, where it achieved a powered flight of 59 seconds covering a distance of 259 metres. It's incredible how far we've come in a relatively short space of time, with modern aircraft with incredible safety and performance profiles. Take the Eurofighter Typhoon for example, which entered service way back in 2003, with some mightily impressive stats: Top speed - Mach 2.0 (approx. 1,550 mph) Ceiling - 55,000 feet Climb Rate - 0 to 36,000 feet in under 90 seconds Acceleration - subsonic to Mach 1.5 in under 30 seconds Thrust - 40,000 lb (equivalent to the weight of over 13 VW Golfs) So, here's to all the hard work, dedication, creative thinking, and human ingenuity that have driven our progress over the past several hundred years. Let's also toast to the future, where we will continue to push boundaries and overcome new challenges with the same dedication and vigour. While the challenges of the future may differ from those of the past, our approach remains steadfast and committed to innovation and excellence. What's your favourite aircraft and why?
