Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in Australia. But you might not know that it's often caused by dangerous working conditions. George developed prostate cancer after exposure to dangerous chemicals at work. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. It's a time to consider the need for prevention, screening, and research into treatment. Workplace exposure to cancer-causing substances raises questions about workplace safety and cancer prevention – and compensation for those who have developed cancer after a workplace exposure. Read George's story on our blog.

Dr. Kshitij Domadia's article on "Tobacco's Toxic Legacy-Tracing the Mechanism of Lung Cancer Development" published in today's TOI sheds light on the critical issue of tobacco smoking as a leading cause of preventable death worldwide, especially due to its association with Lung Cancer. The article delves into key aspects including the initiation, promotion, and progression of Lung Cancer, as well as the role of genetic susceptibility in this process. An interesting preventive measure is the use of Mouth Dissolving Strip- Nicotine Polacrilex. This preventive major can play a crucial role in controlling and mitigating the development and progression of Cancer. Understanding these mechanisms is essential in combating the devastating impacts of tobacco on public health.

Banning the sale of tobacco to people born between 2006 and 2010 could prevent around 1.2 million deaths from lung cancer by the end of the century, said a modelling study released Thursday. Smoking is responsible for roughly 85 per cent of all cases of lung cancer, the deadliest cancer worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. If current trends continue, there will be nearly three million lung cancer deaths among people born from 2006 to 2010, said the new study from the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). But if tobacco sales were banned for these 650 million people, around 1.2 million deaths could be prevented by 2095, estimated the modelling research published in The Lancet Public Health journal. A couple of key points from this study: 1. Lung cancer screening offers a 'teachable moment' to give quit smoking advice. 2. Offering immediate quit smoking support (in person or via the telephone) alongside lung cancer screening increases rates of those who quit smoking. Policy-wise, it lends credence to the argument that quit smoking services need to be embedded within public health outreach programmes. Proactively reaching out in targeted settings will help prevent and reduce the burden of multiple smoking-related diseases. https://lnkd.in/gX6NfzkT

Prevention Cancer- Health and Environment. Prevention, screening, and other strategies for early detection can reduce the burden of cancer. Cancer screening and early diagnosis of symptomatic disease can identify cancers early and this includes mitigation plan covering relevant Environmental factors. It is important to secure funds for research and clinical application to improve health care delivery practices that support evidence-based cancer prevention, screen detection, and early diagnosis.

Cancer is one of the most prevalent causes of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020 alone. Since cancer risks increase dramatically as we age, it’s essential to ensure your regular health checkups include cancer screening and detection services. Anywhere from 30-50% of cancers can be prevented by reducing risk factors and implementing existing evidence-based prevention strategies. Besides preventative measures, early detection and appropriate treatment can be crucial to survival, as many patients actually have a higher rate of cure if diagnosed and treated correctly. Galleri is a multi-cancer early detection test created by healthcare company GRAIL. Through a single blood draw, it can detect over 50 types of cancers — over 45 of which lack recommended screening today — with a low false positive rate. Call our office at 817-552-4300 to book your screening today!

This is the most comprehensive study to report the survival of 12 cancers in AYAs in 29 European countries. We showed variability in survival among countries most likely due to differences in stage at diagnosis, access to treatment, and lack of referral to expert centres. Survival has improved especially for haematological cancers. Further efforts are needed to improve survival for other cancers as well, especially in adolescents.

I should probably be pleased that at least #personalised_medicine has made it on to this #Cancer_map 🙄 but frankly, I am deeply disappointed with this 👇 from the European Commission #EUCancerMission #BECA #KnowledgeCentreonCancer. I am only too familiar with the convenient 'health is MS business' narrative plus the map clearly illustrates who has been good at lobbying and yes, we've all read the #EU_priorities- but REALLY? So, in our EU societies, if cancer is not killer No2 after cardio-vascular- it's killer No1. And in all this talk about cancer- we allocate precisely *2* out of 32 items to the very domain where people actually *DIE*- diagnostics and treatment. Not even that- there is nothing on diagnostics, considering the current overall shortage of pathologists and the difficulties to get an accurate diagnosis especially for rare cancers, including paediatric cancers (thankfully all rare)- ZERO. Without an accurate diagnosis- you can have the best drugs available but you will *still* die because you get treated for the wrong diagnosis. There is yet again ZERO on palliative care, pain management and psychosocial support. Don't fall for what they tell you at Med School 'with current drugs, no patient has to suffer pain'- that's not the reality in advanced cancer. We are in cancers, so surely, death and dignified dying should be on this map, very much as survivorship. This reads like a healthy, well, not-yet-diagnosed person's pipe-dream on cancer. We swish from prevention directly to survivorship and obviously, innovation. Ignoring the nasty middle bit where people suffer and actually die. Might work for elections but let's not fool ourselves- even if we started preventing optimally today, that still leaves us with the other half of unpreventable cancers. Plus the prevention gone wrong from the last decades- so yes, we should do our utter best to prevent the maximum we can. But not close our eyes to the fact that for the decades to come, it's effective detection, diagnosis and treatment that will get anyone to survivorship. #I_Had_Expected_More https://lnkd.in/dNr7Ag3G

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in both men & women in the United States, with about 1 in 23 men and 1 in 25 women at risk of developing it in their lifetime. During National #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth, it's important to highlight the significance of screening for early detection & prevention. Regular colorectal screening can help detect precancerous polyps or early-stage cancer when treatment is most effective. In fact, screening can reduce the risk of death from colorectal cancer by up to 60%. It's recommended that individuals start screening at age 45 or earlier if they have a family history of colorectal cancer or certain genetic conditions. By raising awareness about the importance of colorectal screening, we can save lives and improve the overall health outcomes of individuals in the US and beyond. Let's prioritize our health and take proactive steps towards early detection & prevention. #ColorectalCancerAwareness #PreventionIsKey #menhealth #womenshealth #healthinformationexchange
