The number one thing in my book for a successful broker early you have to be coachable, but at the end of the day you have to be disciplined. Started at Colgate playing football, was fortunate enough to play there and got connected with really good alumni base. One of those alumni was Dan Hurwitz, who is a good friend of Kyles, legend in the retail real estate world. And he said I got to introduce you to this guy, Kyle Matthews. He just opened an office out there, spoke with Kyle, knew that it was going to be an absolute fit and got the opportunity to come back for an internship and that summer before my senior year. After I think the second day, I called my parents and I said this is absolutely what I want to do. This is where I want to do it. Basically just spent my whole time during the internship trying to prove my value to to everyone. I did truly treat it like a 60 day job interview. Seeing Kyle on those training, seeing Dave, seeing that they really take the time to talk to the new agents, talk to the interns. That showed me that no job is too small for even the top people at this company. Got the opportunity to be asked back full time after graduation and took it from there. Starting out, it's hard, There's ups and downs and some people will close the deal earlier or later, but you kind of think you're the only one going through it at that time. But in reality, everyone around you is either going through the same thing with you or they have gone through it and they've made it out the other side. I just knew I needed to commit to the fundamentals and I was going to do the fundamentals and be more disciplined than anyone else. It was exactly a year too close. My first deal from when I walked in to when I rang the bell, it was one year earned Rookie of the year, which was an amazing honor. But again, it wasn't something that I was like, you know, thinking about every day, like I'm going to get that. I just knew I wanted to be successful and knew I needed to do what I needed to do and everything kind of took care of itself from there. So obviously sports were huge part of my life. Weight training, like all the time working out. In season out of season, it was always part of who I was. The number one thing in my book for a successful broker early you have to be coachable, but at the end of the day you have to be disciplined. I'm a huge routine person. A lot of times people think that's crazy to wake up early and meal prep and eat the same thing all week. Like it's not crazy, it's just we're not the same. Do you have to get up every day like you have to wake up early in this job? Like you will be in your bed and it's cold and you're all alarm goes off at 4:58 and you want to just snooze it and sleep until six and be like, oh, I'm getting in the opposite seven. That's more than. 90% of people, we don't want to be the top 10%, You want to be the top 1%. You can't really be a disciplined person at work if you're a completely undisciplined person outside of work. I just don't really think that goes hand in hand when motivation is gone. When you what are you going to lean on? You have to lean on what you always do. The opportunity for associate Market leader got presented. I thought in the back of my mind always that moving to the management side of things would be something that I could have some interest in. The opportunity to sacrifice one successful brokerage career that I knew I could have to potentially grow 50-60 hundred however many brokerage careers I can help develop. I felt my value add to Matthews and to the agents could be much greater than just having a brokerage career. That's just something that's always been with me. I feel like comfortable with people looking to me when times get tough. I know that's a quality that I like in leaders and that's a quality I like to show because as a leader, right, a lot of times if something's going bad, everyone's going to look to you. You shouldn't be on your heels freaking out about what's going on. Everything has a solution. When I made the decision, I told myself I committed myself like I will be the best market leader I can be, putting other people's needs ahead of mine and understanding that that's for the greater good and. That's exactly I think what I'm here to do.

I was recently asked, out of all the stories I wrote about business leaders and their journeys last year, which one I found the most interesting.
