I really appreciate David Hannan's relentless focus on being clear. I find his perspective incredibly helpful regardless of what I am doing, whether I am looking to make a career pivot or in the thick of it in a current role. Stepping back from the front line to reflect on what I'm doing and why no doubt is the common obstacle I face. This question is one of the most common I receive from others interested in building their skills in Product Management. While my answer is always dependent upon the individual, I wanted to poll the audience to pressure test some of my favorites.

Do you ever wish you could be more impactful with how you communicate? Whether it be on a resume or in presentation to the board, were are regularly told to use numbers. Secret: Without a meaningful context though, using numbers doesn't really make a difference?! Here is a simple example from a recent indoor ride I completed using Zwift's gaming platform. - Between the stats displayed during the ride and after during the summary report, I counted at least 27 different statistics or numbers. - Of all the numbers displayed, I appreciate and understand the stat identified in the green circle. PS = Pizza Slices. - Yes. The calories burned on this ride equates to those found in eating 1.7 slices of pizza. No, I don't know whether that is cheese pizza or meat lovers, but you get the point. - Having this number displayed in a context with which I'm familiar with is super helpful and motivating each time I begin a ride. Here is a real world example which actually worked. - The company was super focused on customer growth, increasing revenue, and increasing margins. - Stagnant growth in adoption of these products, meager revenue with each SKU, and razor thin margins made it difficult to advocate for much needed investment. - Highlighting this customer segment represented $1 out of every $5 the company made suddenly got folks attention and unlocked much needed investments. Don't be lured into the trap of just believing that adding context will help. The challenge is in using a context that is meaningful to the audience. When I'm working out, communicating to me in pizza slices is valuable. Figure out what is meaningful for the audience you are communicating with and try that! See what a difference makes. If you always wait until tomorrow to start, you're setting yourself up for missed opportunities. Starting right now, even if it's by taking a small step, is the beginning of creating a consistent routine to accomplish your goals and missions. The power of starting now -- not next week, not tomorrow, and not when or if a certain thing happens first -- is the way to start chipping away at whatever it is that you wish to do. Even the smallest of steps add up over time into something huge. Use that mindset to start building today. #Leadership #GrowthMindset #ChangeManagement #GoalSetting

Digital transformation is nothing new anymore -- 89% of large companies have undergone one, according to Forbes. What we need to work on now is efficiency and efficacy in these transformations, particularly with AI becoming so prominent across industries. We often approach digital transformations with the technology itself in mind, but we must also think about the people -- if our teams are to be upskilled or reskilled, keeping their feelings and concerns as a top priority, and what programs we can deploy to achieve company-wide comprehension and preparedness.
