Been a week since Inventures 2024, and I’m still buzzing with inspiration! As part of the Ministry of Technology and Innovation, I had the incredible opportunity to attend this groundbreaking event. Inventures 2024 was all about doing something new or innovating in ways that create real value. From quantum computing and AI to robotics and health innovations, the event brought together startups, ecosystem builders, and academia to push the boundaries of what's possible. One key takeaway: understanding people is the catalyst for true innovation. Connecting with individuals from diverse walks of life was the most rewarding part of my experience. Highlights included inspiring keynote speakers and impactful breakout sessions. Here are three tips to jumpstart your creativity from the event: 1. Turn towards fear. 2. Adopt the half-hour habit. 3. Let’s get physical. Also, a special shoutout to A-MEDICO for their inaugural annual meeting, which united industry experts and academia to advance discussions and collaboration in Alberta’s medical devices sector. LinkedIn is surely full of it. Brags and thanks. So this is not about that 'alone' ;-). I am not excited that we were (co-)ranked first at this InnovatorMD Global Summit competition. I am excited because an esteemed panel of judges who are clinicians and healthcare innovators have agreed that the problem Mesh AI (collaborative scheduling to end clinician burnout) is tackling is an important one, that we have a decent solution to it, and that we are executing well on it. Healthcare's future is human-centric. But automation, robotics, and AI are absolutely all over that future. Make no mistake. In fact, we're already here. That is why we are investing ‘big’ that human capital management in healthcare will be smarter and kinder to those in it. ❓ Where can I find an investor for my hardware startup? This is one of the most common questions we hear from founders. Starting a hardware company isn’t the easiest path in life. It's for the brave ones. It comes with unique challenges: from scaling production and maintaining a laser focus on (only) core features, to having the courage to break things and learn. But one of the toughest hurdles remains — finding the right hardware-savvy investors. And it’s not just founders facing this issue.
