So why is OYE Mujer career and leadership development program called OYE (Own Your Expertise)? It's because in my work as an executive and leadership coach that centers the experience of Latinas in the workplace, I've experienced and have heard from other Latinas the things that we go through throughout our life and/or career. Sometimes, we hear things or tell ourselves things such as: ⛔I'm too old for this role now ⛔No matter how hard I work, I'm not being seen or heard ⛔I don't have the confidence ⛔I'm stuck in middle management ⛔I need financial security; I grew up without ⛔Will I excel in the new role? None of these thoughts or beliefs serve us. And because of these thoughts that hinder us, we find it EXTREMELY difficult to own our expertise. ⛔We find it extremely difficult to share aloud our knowledge and expertise. ⛔We find it extremely difficult to self-promote confidently (note that I said confidently, and not arrogantly). ⛔We find it extremely difficult to believe that we can make a move. ⛔We find it extremely difficult to negotiate our salary or ask for a raise. This is why it's called OYE. Because mujeres, it is time to Own Your Expertise, and to do so confidently. Doors for the program are open until the end of this week (April 26th). Today, I'm having the most important meeting of my month: 𝑳𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒉 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏. ✨Here's why it's so important✨ It's not *just* because our assistants are brilliant, hilarious, compassionate, beautiful human beings who strengthen the team and elevate my life. (100% facts). It's also because.... ➡️ Assistant's know what's up. They see our company from a completely different lens, and I need their wisdom in order to lead well. ➡️ They know if we're healthy as a team - they know when we're understaffed or strained. They know what kind of customer feedback we're getting, and where we need more training. They know what snacks people like, and what times of the week are higher traffic for us. They know which projects cause people pain, and they even know which choices I make as a leader have the greatest net positive or negative impact on the company at large. Assistants 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰. They are brilliant advisors, and they truly are the backbone of any great company. ➡️ They're also my future leadership force. Investing in my assistants is the best way to build the strong leadership team I need in the years to come. Meeting regularly not only shows how much I value them, it cultivates trust and partnership, speeding up learning curves not just for them, but for me. It's the best meeting of the month, and I can't wait for our time together today.

🚀 Sat having my breakfast and realised I've been involved in my own bit of culture work at home... My kids are lovely but they exhaust me with their constant bickering, which just makes it a difficult environment at home sometimes. This isn't a new conversation in our house, so I asked them what would help, and we came up with this rocket! They both thought about what they wanted to be like together and what needed to improve, which they wrote down around the rocket... ☝️ When I see them living these values, it's recognised and they move up... 👇 When I see them doing something against these values (and not resolving it successfully), we call it out, they move down and we chat through what we can do differently next time... 🌔 When they get to the top, we celebrate it and they get something to share that they both really want* However. It was taking them ages to get to the top 🤦🏻♀️ Then I was chatting to my 6 year old about her shouting at her sister, when she pointed out 2 things that made me stop and think about my role in all this: 1️⃣ Why do I (as her mum) not move up or down a rocket when I shout? 2️⃣ I apologise and say I'll do better myself (for i.e. shouting/not being patient) but I never change. Both true. Not so dissimilar for organisations and the importance of consistency and senior leadership role-modelling the behaviours they want to see. What else can we do to close the gap between what's on paper and what's felt in an organisation? *A wax stamp kit, if you're interested! #culture #leadership #rolemodelling
