See below for new Link briefing on Biodiversity Net Gain - lots needs to be done, and quickly, to make the policy deliver for nature:

It's been just over six months since Biodiversity Net Gain rules became mandatory - in theory ensuring that all developments create more space for nature than is lost to the project. But flaws in the design of the scheme means take up is low, with reports of just 0.5% of planning projects being subject to net gain rules: https://lnkd.in/ectJbsKi So how can we fix Biodiversity Net Gain? In our latest briefing we set out some changes needed: https://lnkd.in/exKD4Tsw We need to review & tighten up exemptions including those covering self build projects, & ensure enforcement action is taken when net gain rules aren’t followed. It's also key to encourage Local Authorities to create more space for nature by going above & beyond the 10% requirement. We need to swiftly require major infrastructure projects to contribute to strategic nature recovery projects.
