Mastery parents made their voices heard at a recent public hearing, sharing student success stories and the positive impact of Mastery Schools with Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and the newly-appointed Philadelphia School Board. We are so proud of this partnership we have built with our families through the Mastery Parent Action Team (MPAT), which helps parents develop organizing and advocacy skills to lead in their local communities. We would especially like to thank Nelly Jadan, James Felder, and Tanica Billey, parents of students at Thomas Campus, Pastorius-Richardson Elementary, Wister Elementary, and Pickett Campus, for their testimonies. #WeAreMastery #PHLed #FamilyEngagement

🎙️ Empowering Parents: Get Involved in Your Child’s Education! In my recent discussion on the Chris Heasley Radio Show, I emphasized the crucial role parents play in shaping their children’s educational environment. It’s time for parents to step up, attend local school board meetings, and engage with the decisions that impact their kids' futures. Key Points: Engage Locally: Attend ISD meetings, understand who represents your children, and what values and programs are being implemented. Speak Up: If something doesn't sit right with you, voice your concerns. Share your views and encourage dialogue. Foster Dialogue: It’s essential to have conversations where disagreement is okay. By sharing and listening, we can foster understanding and make meaningful changes. Let’s work together to create a supportive and effective educational system for our children. Watch the full clip to learn more about how you can get involved and make a difference. 📚🗣️ #MarkStross #ChrisHeasleyShow #Education #ParentalInvolvement #CommunityEngagement #Dialogue #ISDMeetings #Empowerment #EducationalChange #Leadership #Advocacy

Educational Leader Founder and CEO of Concept1 Learning Centre Inc. RECE Director, Early Childhood Education Inclusion/Diversity Education
Receiving that phone call from a Peel Principal, affirming the impact of the Patka Box™️, truly marked a pivotal moment in my journey as an educator and advocate. When I first envisioned this resource, I had no idea where it would lead, let alone the profound difference it would make in schools. Hearing, "What you have done for schools is incredible" made me feel deeply valued—not just as someone who works in education, but as a voice for cultural awareness and inclusion. This validation means so much because the Patka Box™️ wasn't just a project—it was a leap of faith. As educators, we often don't know the full extent of the seeds we plant, but this message from a Principal affirms that the work is taking root in ways I had only dreamed of. It fuels my commitment to ensuring every child feels seen, respected, and celebrated for who they are. This moment reminds me that we are on the right path, and I am incredibly grateful for the continued support from school leaders like this Principal. It makes the challenges worthwhile and reinforces that this journey is just the beginning. Family engagement is doing things differently, not doing more. School leaders and parents can improve home-to-school partnerships by rethinking how school leaders are already engaging parents and families to support their child’s education. Keep tabs on the njfehub.org website for more information on how we're bringing NJ parents and school leaders together for the benefit of NJ students. #njfehub #NJFamilyEngagementHub #FamilyEngagement #StudentSuccess

School is about to begin, and here's a gentle reminder for all parents out there. Take 5 minutes to sit with your child and have a conversation about kindness. Teach them that making fun of someone's differences is never okay. Emphasize that there's beauty in diversity and that everyone deserves respect, regardless of their appearance or background. Explain to your child the importance of inclusivity and compassion. Help them understand that every individual, regardless of their circumstances, deserves to feel accepted and valued. Encourage them to be a source of positivity and support for their peers. Remind your child that school is a place for learning, growth, and building friendships. Encourage them to focus on their education and personal development, rather than engaging in negative behaviors or competition. Kindness and empathy can go a long way in creating a safe and supportive school environment. Let's instill these values in our children from an early age, teaching them to be empathetic, understanding, and inclusive. Thank you, Linda Dickey and Kim Downs Norway, for the important reminder. It all starts at home. #KindnessMatters #Inclusivity #SchoolPrep 📚🌟

Building a Community Around Your School's Identity A school's identity isn't built in isolation- it grows through the collaboration of educators, students, parents, and the broader community. When everyone shares in the vision, the entire ecosystem thrives. Dear School Leader, how often do you engage parents in conversations about your school's values? When you involve every stakeholder, you cultivate a powerful sense of ownership and pride in your shared mission. Plan a session to gather feedback from parents, students, and staff. How can their voices shape the school community moving forward?

Enhancing Education Through Strong Family and Community Relationships Effective education hinges on robust relationships between schools, families, and communities. At JAM Teaching and Consulting, we witness how these partnerships amplify student support and advocacy. Key strategies: Active Listening: Understanding each student's needs begins with truly hearing families' and communities' perspectives. Collaborative Advocacy: Working together on IEPs, 504 plans, and other frameworks ensures every student's needs are met. The key piece here is collaboration. The challenge: Are educators proactive enough in fostering these connections? Success demands more than academic support; it involves building a supportive network around each student. How do we facilitate this? Stronger outreach and collaboration. Relationships are the start of a supportive, collaborative journey of advocacy. #EducationalPartnerships #FamilyEngagement #CommunityOutreach #StudentSupport #InclusiveEducation

✨Let's talk about Parents and Special Educators Collaborating✨ 1. Ask the teachers questions - Remember the saying “There is no such thing as a dumb question” 2. Speak up for your child if something in the classroom is not working for them - If a classmate is bothering them in their seat; they can’t see the board; they need help academically, emotionally, or behaviorally 3. Volunteer in the classroom - This is a great way to get a hands-on look at what your child is learning in the classroom. There are many parents who express to me that their child is so much different at home than at school. By volunteering in the classroom, the parent can see how the child interacts with their teacher and peers and get ideas on ways to work with their child at home. 4. Get to know your children’s friends and their families - I find this really helpful as a parent. I like getting to know the other families to give my children a chance to socialize with their peers outside of the classroom. How do you make special education a collaborative process?
