The Mass Leads Act aims to strengthen Massachusetts’ global leadership and expand opportunity in our state now and for a generation to come. Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives (MBI), a key anchor to Central Massachusetts and the entire Commonwealth's life sciences ecosystem, has been supported by the MLSC enabling MBI to triple the capacity of the incubator’s facility, expand its workforce programming, and advance its cluster building activities. The next iteration of the Life Sciences Initiative can help ensure the benefits of the life sciences continue to be shared across Massachusetts. #WhyMassLeads #WhyLifeSciences

Next Friday, join us for a virtual session on 'Advancing Science Policy - Challenges and Opportunities' from 3-4:30 pm EDT at the Biomedical Transparency Summit (BMTS). BMTS is an annual thought leadership gathering of biomedical research funders, policymakers, government departments, journal editors & publishers, tech developers, biopharma, and academia. The event provides a unique opportunity for stakeholders in the research ecosystem to connect, collaborate and update on major aspects of research transparency. I'm delighted to speak at this invite-only event on 'Policy Engagement and Impact for Scientists and Engineers' alongside policy leaders from US Government Accountability Office, Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering & Center for Biomedical Research Transparency (CBMRT). CBMRT is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that promotes and facilitates transparent reporting of biomedical research. The Life Science industry needs to improve accessibility. It seems we‘re often perpetuating existing inequalities created by a lack of accessibility. In many cases, life science education is not particularly accessible and although this seems to get better, instruments and systems used in the lab are lagging behind. I think it‘s important to develop instruments and software that can be used by all researchers and scientists. It feels like a daunting task to go beyond web accessibility checklists but it is necessary. I recently learnt about the Accessible Biomedical Immersion Laboratory (ABIL) located at Purdue’s Discovery Learning Research Center. I love that they have a 3-D virtual environment that allowed me to explore the lab and compare to the labs I‘ve worked in. Change towards more accessible life science laboratories is happening and I‘m looking forward to learn more and figure out how to make this aspect more prominent in new product development.
