“When people think about life sciences in the United States, they think of Massachusetts.” A tremendous morning for our ecosystem in Framingham, MA. Today, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced $13.1 million in grants through the MLSC’s STEM Equipment and Professional Development Grant program and the Workforce Development Capital Grant program. Secretary of Economic Development Yvonne Hao joined Senate President Karen Spilka, the MLSC team, and state and local officials to announce the awards at Sanofi in Framingham. Following today’s grant announcement, state and local officials toured Sanofi’s award-winning digitally enabled manufacturing facility in Framingham, one of the world’s first digital facilities using intensified, continuous production technologies. Better healthcare starts here: The University of Ottawa’s new Advanced Medical Research Centre (AMRC) will play a crucial role in curbing Ottawa’s biotech brain drain. Ottawa has earned its global reputation as a vibrant city for medical research and innovation. But if it wants to keep its top researchers in the region and build a thriving biotech sector, more lab space and private investment will be needed, says Jean-Simon Diallo, who is founder and CEO of Virica Biotech Inc, scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, and associate professor at the uOttawa | Faculté de médecine | Faculty of Medicine. At the Advanced Medical Research Centre (AMRC), researchers, health-care professionals and investors will team up to accelerate the discovery and commercialization of life-saving therapies. “The AMRC is a good example of the understanding that we need to get researchers to commercialize their intellectual property. But we also need to support them with the space and the equipment they need.” says Dane Bedward, CEO of NeuroBot Inc. and former senior vice president international for Genzyme Corporation. “There’s so much grey matter here, but so many inventions that have come out of Canada get gobbled up and taken outside Canada.” Read the article or watch the video to learn more about how the AMRC will provide huge opportunities for the next wave of Ottawa biotech researchers and entrepreneurs. - https://lnkd.in/g46-G9Au #uOttawa #uOttawaAMRC #BetterHealthcare #StartsHere #Ottawa #research #biotech

Details of The Labour Party life science plan are emerging...what jumps out to LifeArc? 1/6 - Make life science a priority for DHSC 🏥 LifeArc drives basic science towards patients. Coordination between science and healthcare is vital - inc in Government. Peter Kyle Wes Streeting MP 2/6 Increase uni spinouts 🎓 🤝 LifeArc shared expertise with the recent review of spinouts, and we're supporting next steps. We're keen to ensure future initiatives reflect the needs of all the players involved, and crucially helps more health innovations reach patients faster. 3/6 Increase 'access to finance' 💷 The easier and more attractive we make it for life science companies to start, scale and stay in the UK, the better chance we have of improving patients’ lives with new innovations and maintaining the UK’s leading role in life sciences. LifeArc was active in shaping the Mansion House compact agreed by the current Government. We'll work with the next Government – whoever they are – to ensure the Compact boosts UK companies. The life sciences industry needs to demonstrate its strengths as an attractive investment – an area where LifeArc Ventures plays a key role. 4/6 Maintain R&D tax credits, review them, maintain patent box 💡 These schemes make it less expensive to do life science research in the UK - especially for the small innovative companies we work with through LifeArc Ventures. Labour saying they'll prioritise life sciences in their review of credits - great to see, given life science SMEs are uniquely dependent on them for extensive periods of 'risky' R&D. 5/6 set out key technologies for the UK to lead, including (maybe) cell and gene therapies (CGT) 🔬 CGT is very exciting and we published on the skills the UK needs to keep them accelerating ( https://lnkd.in/enwaApjq ). It's important the next Government - whoever they are - keeps this sector growing. 6/6 Much more (regulation, planning reform, skills, NHS trials, trade strategy) 🏗 LifeArc is active in all these areas and look forward to sharing 25yrs+ expertise to help inform decisions to support UK life sciences and drive more innovative health research to patients.
Our aim at LifeArc is to make life science life changing, and we will continue to work with this government and the next to deliver on that ambition. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dRUEV9Mj Today, we welcome The Labour Party's announcement of their own life sciences sector plan. The plan was launched at the Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst campus, where we have drug discovery laboratories. Ahead of an upcoming general election, it is important that all political parties consider how they would support the life sciences in government – a key driver of health and wealth in the UK.

“Smart” labels win prestigious Innovation Prize for Advanced Material Development's Chief Scientific Officer A leading Surrey University academic and Chief Scientific Officer of Guildford based Advanced Material Development Ltd has been recognized at the UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowships Impact Awards at Manchester last week. At the event organised by the UKRI, the government’s public scientific funding body, Dr Izabela Jurewicz was announced winner of the Research and Innovation prize at the Future Leaders Fellowships Awards. These awards recognise the next wave of world-class leaders in academia and business. This innovative work with her research team at the University of Surrey, on behalf of one of AMD’s global packaging customers, brings improvements to vaccine safety and a reduction of vaccine wastage by offering a novel solution inspired by nature. The products are small stickers that adhere to vaccine vials that change colour if the vaccine is exposed to excessive heat rendering it inactive or even toxic.
