One of the best things you can do to protect children is teach them from a young age the medical names for their private parts (penis, vagina, breasts, butt, etc). When we teach children the medically correct names for their body parts, we give them the language to describe what’s happening if they are being abused. Children are open to learning and using this language to describe their bodies. It’s often the adults who feel it's awkward, but it doesn’t have to be! April is #ChildAbuseAwarenessMonth.
