Re-Villaging Our Communities — Chapter 9, Part 2. (FREE) "Fractal community empowerment is about releasing the literal power of Love that flows through us into a tangible, gentle community-building network framework that connects the dots between people and organizations -- that can break through everywhere simultaneously... "Our neighbor-to-neighbor movement is living proof that activating a functional “global village” starts by re-empowering local villages – in this case, the neighborhoods and whole communities where we live – connecting at a “human scale.” https://lnkd.in/gU2ZCy87

In Transition. Exploring Next Service Assignment. Former Managing Director - Multifamily Housing Unit - WA State Housing Trust Fund
I am enjoying the research completed by the Community Opportunity Alliance's "Money Meets Community" study - which documents the ways the community development field is being sustained. Today's webinar provided an insightful discussion around how 80% of the organizations in this arena have a substantial disadvantage in terms of revenue and assets. As pointed out by the moderator, the lack of assets makes an organization more vulnerable, just as it would a family. We need sustained investment in the growth of the sector, prioritizing these under resourced, minority and women led organizations. I view the health of these nonprofits as a proxy for the communities they serve because without a healthy, nonprofit organization, the public institutions will not be responsive and serve those individuals. They will deliver impact, so bolstering core operating support should be a priority nationwide. Keep up the good work! https://lnkd.in/gUNwC7Pm https://lnkd.in/g4Jfg9Gn

When it comes to community development, money is important, but it’s not the whole story. 💡 Too often, people look to material wealth to solve relational issues. A lack of community infrastructure can’t be solved by a tax credit – needed though it may be. In order to see deep and lasting change in disinvested neighborhoods, we need to look to relationships. Tune into the Place Matters episode featuring Seth Kaplan as he shares about his book “Fragile Neighborhoods,” to help us understand just how important relationships are in building stronger communities. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/evsefY2s

Did you know Imagine Housing has 183 subsidized units which reimburses at 3x the affordable housing rent. 110 tenants not living in subsidized units pay less than 30% of their income for rent. these rents range from 5% to 29% of their gross income for housing. This occurs because Imagine Housing does not use affordable housing allowed practices of AMI reclassification and the Over Income Clause 62 tenant households pay what is considered not rent burdened and pay 30% to 39% of their gross income for rent. 183 Imagine households are rent burdened from 40% to 100% of their gross income. Imagine allows tenants to sign a lease when their income is 1.5 X the affordable Housing rent amount. Please consider giving to Imagine having a in house subsidy program for these 183 families. This important in-house subsidy program need will increase when Samma in Bothell is completed, and leasing begins.
As we prepare for Building Community Together next Friday, we'd like to give a special thank you to our event sponsors. Together, you are showing the community that you actively engage in a cause that positively impacts our entire community: the creation of permanent affordable housing for low-income families and individuals, along with services to help them thrive.
