Celebrating Organizations that are championing the cause for sustainable development in #Zimbabwe. Mukana Sustainable Development is an organization Founded by Nikki B.. The name Mukana is a #shona word which translates to #opportunity. Mukana Sustainable Development are on a mission to plant an #indigenous woodlot that will be sustainably managed. Mukana Sustainable Development’s vision is to see schools in Zimbabwe and elsewhere develop #sustainably, embracing #regenerative practices. “The Tree of the Year (TOY) is Vachellia Xanthophlora/ Acacia Fever Tree/ Muunga. This will form a woodlot at Nyamasanga Primary School together with the Red Mahogany, Mukamba and many other species. We also championed the planting of an agro-fruit forest comprising of different fruit varieties. Climatically and environmentally, the world is in so much pain and we are, as much, to blame for what we have become. Everyday, we see people cutting down trees, especially, indigenous trees that have taken so many years to grow for firewood, curing tobacco and even unsustainable National de-bushing and many other things. Let us look for other sustainable ways and regenerate our forests- hands off our forests!” - Audrey Simbiso Chidawanyika, MBA #sustainabledevelopment #mukana #treeplanting #climatechangesolutions

🌳🌍 Today, on the International Day of Forests, let's shine a light on Sauti Kuu's Afforestation & Reforestation project sponsored by the Austrian Embassy in Nairobi. Siaya County, an area of about 2,496 km² with a population of close to 993,183, only has approx. 2% forest cover. The lack of forest cover is as a result of the felling of trees for firewood (charcoal) for domestic use. This lack of tree cover not only impacts local farm yields but also jeopardizes food security. Based on land availability Siaya County should be able to provide for itself and, beyond that, supply other parts of the country with food produce. In response to this pressing issue, Sauti Kuu has taken action in Alego Nyangoma, Siaya County. Through afforestation and reforestation initiatives, we aim to continue to: 🌧️ Influence rainfall patterns to enhance crop yields. 🌿 Restore the traditional live hedges around homesteads, enriching the local forest cover. 🔥 Provide sustainable alternatives to firewood by utilizing dry twigs and branches from live hedges for cooking. 🛡️ Establish live hedges as security fencing while also offering fruits for consumption and income generation. Together, let's celebrate the power of trees and commit to nurturing and preserving our precious forests for generations to come. 🌲🌳 #IntlForestDay #SautiKuu #Afforestation #Reforestation #Sustainability 🌍

Did you know that Australia has one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world? A major point of difference between Friends of the Koala and other organisations is our on-the-ground activities to conserve habitat and protect koalas. We are one of the very few organisations that physically grow and plant trees in the Northern Rivers and distribute over 110,000 each year. Help us do more! When you adopt a tree, you are restoring the koala’s natural habitat and helping to conserve the koala population to bring them back from the edge of extinction. Adopt a tree today for $5 - a unique and inexpensive gift that, besides helping our furry friends, you are positively impacting the environment, reducing your carbon footprint and promoting sustainability. #adoptatree #koalahabitat #koala https://ow.ly/Yz3f50QfJWb

Today, over 2 billion people rely on solid fuel such as charcoal for domestic cooking. Charcoal production can be extremely detrimental to the environment, as it can require upwards of 10 tons of wood to produce 1 ton of traditional charcoal. One of the initiatives at the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project is to create sustainable charcoal by pruning shrubs, rather than cutting down entire trees. Our team has produced tens of thousands of kgs of eco-charcoal without cutting down a single tree and are developing sales channels to increase its distribution. Nine permanent staff manually process up to 500 kgs of briquettes/week. This environmentally-friendly charcoal reduces deforestation pressures while providing an affordable cooking fuel for Kenyan families. Watch Kenya Television Network (KTN)’s full report on the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project to listen directly to what local community members think of the project, as reported by the Kenyan media. They covered various project activities including the production of eco-charcoal. Click here to watch the full clip: https://lnkd.in/e8JfT9i5 #charcoal #conservation #Kenya

Founder and Director at Briquette du Kivu, an organic and food waste recycling Startup, and the first home for Black Soldier Flies in the D.R. Congo. We get green and clean charcoal from the organic waste.
Hello and Merry Christmas from our Black Soldiers Flies farm in Bukavu in the eastern D.R. Congo. In our BSF farming, we are conducting a second valuable experiment: after our experiment to convert BSF frass into clean charcoal briquettes to replace the wood charcoal, now it is time to convert the BSF frass into fire start women can use to light up the charcoal briquettes. Indeed, in my region of eastern D.R. Congo, a woman manipulates the charcoal tree times a day. And everytime a woman manipulates charcoal, weather it is charcoal briquettes or wood charcoal, she needs a fire starter to easily light up her briquettes or wood charcoal. Currently the fire starters available on the market come from Indonesia meaning they are very expensive and can only be found in the main city in supermarkets owned by foreigners. As an alternative, women use a piece of a plastic bag or kerosene. Inhaling a toxic smoke from a plastic bag is very dangerous for women health. We are conducting an experiment to solve this problem. #Bukavu #BlackSoldierFlies #CircularEconomy #CleanEnergy #EnvironmentProtectiin #DRCongo #Africa #TenewableEnetgy #WasteManagement #SustainableJobs #YouthsEmployability
