Today I had the pleasure of watching Sophie Maddison deliver a presentation on how to rally teams for digital transformation at TechEx Events Amsterdam. We live a world where change is the only constant, and our brains are hardwired to feel sick at the mere thought of it. So as Sophie talked about what makes a transformational leader, I reflected beyond just this topic on a few key things I value in both myself as a colleague, friend and employee, but also in my leaders, colleagues and community. Trust - its earned, but you also need to give a little to allow someone the space to earn it. Taking the risk - but calculating it first. What is a calculated risk you can experiment with to allow the intellectual (or creative) stimulation you or a someone around you needs? Never become complacent - you will lose your edge, your motivation, and your charisma. Find that stimulation, ask your peers or leaders to help you find it, up skill yourself, or even find a new hobby: work and life impact each other in both a positive and negative way. These three things all rely on each other in order to truly be happening harmoniously, and again come back to our aversion to change. My point (inspired by Sophie's impactful presentation today) is to lean into vulnerability a little, and start exploring what is your more, what is your impact, and what is your transformation.

🎢 Navigating through change is both an art and a collective journey. Last week, I had the pleasure of participating in the first Transform Aotearoa event; a panel discussion on "Leading through Change" held at Serko Ltd.'s beautiful offices. It was evident that everyone who joined was ready to tackle upcoming changes and transformations with creativity, curiosity, and confidence. Lisa Young 🚀 expertly moderated the panel, where I was joined by Kent Johns, our host Rachael Satherley (she / her / hers), Phillipa Gimmillaro, and Renee Jaine. Each panellist brought unique insights that deepened both dialogue and understanding around change management. During the discussion, I shared the essential role of storytelling and personal brand for change and organisational development; illustrating how it can encourage identity awareness for alignment with organisational culture. This strategy is crucial for improving communication and fostering collaboration, especially in times of transformation. We also explored foundational well-being strategies, emphasising the importance of engaging heads, hearts, and hands. We discussed the essentials of sleep and nutrition and talked about empowering teams to embrace challenges with supportive alignment. The atmosphere was charged with forward-thinking energy, many a book recommendation (keep an eye out for a Phillipa's book club 📚 in the future, we may have gotten this idea across the line) fuelled by our shared dedication to transparency and active involvement in fostering positive change across organisations and entrepreneurial ventures focusing on people-centric functions. 🙏 A special thanks to our additional Transform Advisory Board members who were behind the scenes on this one, Mary Haddock-Staniland, Jane Ward, Caroline 'Caz' Pearce, and Zoe Lyon-Gifford, for insights, inspiration, feedback, and operational support.
