In 2009, Charles McMillan became the first African-American President of the National Association of Realtors, a trade organization for real estate agents founded in 1908. Black people were not allowed to be realtors until 1947.
*It is worthy to note that America had her first African-American President this same year.
McMillan entered the real estate industry in the early 1980s and worked his way to becoming an expert in several areas, including fair housing and diversity.
During his tenure, he found victory in launching a Foreclosure and Prevention Response Program, he saw a favorable end in an 8-year battle, preventing banking conglomerates from entering real estate brokerage/property management businesses, and more.
