🌟 This week, we're shining a spotlight on Hispanic communities and their remarkable impact in America, even in the face of diversity! 🌟 Despite encountering various challenges, Hispanic individuals and families contribute immensely to the cultural, economic, and social fabric of the nation. Hispanic communities enrich American society through their vibrant traditions, delicious cuisines, and strong family values. Their entrepreneurial spirit drives innovation and economic growth, while their diverse talents shape art, music, literature, and beyond. Yet, it's crucial to recognize that Hispanic communities often confront systemic barriers, including language barriers, immigration challenges, and unequal access to resources. Despite these obstacles, Hispanics persevere, demonstrating resilience, strength, and unwavering determination. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage, let's honor the invaluable contributions of Hispanic communities and amplify their voices. Let's strive for a more inclusive society that embraces diversity and empowers all individuals to thrive. Together, we can build a brighter future where every member of our community is valued and supported. 💫🌎 #HispanicHeritage #DiversityAndInclusion #UnitedWeThrive #WOAT

September 15 to October 15 is celebrated nationwide as National Hispanic Heritage Month. It traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans. More than 500 years of Hispanic and Latino history and heritage can be found in national parks or shared through National Park Service programs and partners in communities across the country. Hispanic generally refers to a person who is from, or a descendant of someone who is from a Spanish-speaking country. Latino, Latina, Latine, or Latinx, generally refers to a person who is from, or a descendant of someone who is from, a country in Latin America. It is often a personal choice which term is used by an individual. There are a lot of connections between Latino and Hispanic American identity in the US, so National Hispanic American Heritage Month celebrations often include Latino Americans as well. Check out all the history, venues, and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latino/a/x Americans of past and present on the National Park Service Hispanic Heritage Month webpage: https://buff.ly/2SHGcTK #HispanicHeritageMonth #EncuentraTuParque #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth #Culture #Inclusion #DEI #Diversity #HR #InclusionMatters #Workplace #WorkplaceCulture #HispanicHeritageMonth #CelebrateDiversity #LatinxHeritage #CulturalCelebration #HispanicHeritage #LatinoHistory #Inclusivity #LatinoCulture #HeritageAndHistory #HelpingPeopleWorkBetterTogether

National Hispanic Heritage Month 2024: September 15th through October 15th #HispanicHeritageMonth #LatinxHeritageMonth Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from September 15 to October 15. It began as a week-long celebration in 1968 under President Johnson and was expanded to a month by President Reagan 20 years later in 1988. The month-long celebration provides more time to properly recognize the significant contributions Hispanic/Latino Americans have made in the United States. Hispanic Heritage Month does not cover one single month but instead begins in the middle of September and ends in the middle of October. The timeframe of this month is significant because many Central American countries celebrate their independence days within these dates, beginning on September 15 with Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. By aligning with these independence dates, Hispanic Heritage Month honors the resilience and determination of the Hispanic community. Key Independence Days celebrated within Hispanic Heritage Month include: September 16 – Mexico September 18 – Chile September 21 - Belize

I had the honor of participating in a powerful discussion for Hispanic Heritage Month with Noom, where we dove deep into themes that resonate deeply with the Latinx and Hispanic community: resilience, intersectionality, and self-advocacy. 🌱 Resilience: It’s a word we often celebrate, but it’s important to recognize both its strength and its weight. While resilience is a source of pride, especially for immigrant families, it’s also crucial to acknowledge that we shouldn't have to be resilient in the face of inequity forever. The goal is to address the systems that demand resilience from us. 🌍 Intersectionality: The diversity within our community is vast. We’re not a monolith—our experiences vary greatly depending on race, gender, language, immigration status, and more. Understanding this intersectionality is key to addressing the unique challenges we face. 🤝 Community: One of the biggest takeaways from the conversation was the power of collective resilience. For many of us, community is the cornerstone of our strength. Whether through family, cultural networks, or shared spaces, we lean on each other to thrive. 💡 Self-Advocacy: Building resilience also means advocating for ourselves—setting boundaries, voicing our worth, and pushing for representation in spaces where we’ve historically been excluded. This conversation left me feeling inspired and reflective about the work we still need to do, but also the incredible strength we hold as a community. Let’s continue to lift each other up and push for spaces where we don’t just survive, but thrive. Thank you for having me and for engaging with the topic! ✨ #HispanicHeritageMonth #Resilience #Latinx #Community #DiversityAndInclusion #DEIB _____________________________________________________________ 🔊 Interested in diving deeper into these important topics? I’m available for speaking engagements on resilience, DEIB, and leadership in the Latinx community. 𝗣𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 – 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖 𝙒𝙖𝙡𝙨𝙝 During our Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, we thought it would be educational to hear from our Hearst colleagues about their lived experience in Hispanic culture. Our first interviewee is Maria Walsh. Maria is the Senior Vice President of Global Benefits and works at Hearst Tower in New York. 𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 / 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱? How do you identify within the Hispanic or Latin culture? I identify as Hispanic or Latina and specifically as Cuban American. I was born in Cuba and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of six. Spanish is my first language, and I speak it very often. My family settled in northern New Jersey, and I’ve lived here ever since. 𝟮. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲? So much! I love all the things that make up the “essence” of Hispanic culture – the history, the language and dialects, the music, and, especially, the food! 𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲? One of the beautiful things about Hispanic culture in a place like the U.S. is that we are all a part of a huge and diverse community. I may be Cuban American, but I’m also part of this larger Hispanic community made up of people from different countries with their own history, cultural practices, foods, music and more. It’s a diverse diaspora but with some important, common experiences that bind us together. I love being a part of it, and I especially love being able to share my culture with my husband and two daughters. 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙪𝙨, 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖. As we approach the final days of Hispanic Heritage Month, let’s continue celebrating and honoring the vibrant cultures, rich histories, and incredible contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities. Hispanic heritage is a cornerstone of our shared identity, shaping art, music, food, and innovation across the nation. These last 10 days are a reminder to uplift Hispanic voices and ensure that the celebration of heritage continues all year long. Let’s keep the momentum going by promoting inclusion, understanding, and pride in our diverse histories! The HACR - Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility is leading a powerful coalition of allied organizations representing historically underrepresented groups, including Asian Americans, Indigenous Peoples, people with disabilities, women, and Black and Hispanic communities. Launched in Washington, HACR President and CEO Cid Wilson began a 240+ mile trek from Capitol Hill to Wall Street in New York City’s financial district. Our commitment to change is unwavering. This is why we continue to work alongside our incredible partners, such as LatinoJustice PRLDEF, UnidosUS (@WeAreUnidosUS) SER National, MANA A NATIONAL LATINA ORGANIZATION, Dominican Bar Association and HACEto champion #DEI at every level of corporate leadership. Visit WalktoWallStreet.org to learn how you can get involved. Let’s stand up for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
