National Interprofessional Healthcare Month continues as Joseph Zorek, PharmD, BCGP, FNAP shares another panel from our work together.
'Shocking', from which this panel was pulled, was one of our earliest stories-- the 8th or 9th, out of 35, I believe.
It's one of my favorites, as it's very beautifully succinct.
Here, Joe and his team wrote a script that highlighted a situationally unique crisis: one that threw the readers right into the mix, without causing any sort of confusion. Throughout the story, we were able to find a really nice harmony between the words on the page and the visuals, and I fondly look back upon that success.
If you're curious to see this story in full, (as well as the rest of the stories that Joe has been showcasing) read his full post below for the name of his book, and seek it out!

This illustration comes from "SHOCKING: An Illustrated Case Study," co-authored with Jeff Fish and brought to life by George Folz.
It shines a light on the challenges faced by individuals who live in rural parts of America, where access to timely care - particularly in emergency situations - can have life-threatening consequences.
Fortunately for the main character in this case, the seamless transition of care from a talented #EMS team to an interprofessional critical care team ends well.

Hospital price transparency compliance is on the decline, according to a recent report by Patient Rights Advocate.
Only 34.5% of hospitals reviewed were fully compliant with federal price transparency laws as of January, marking a decrease from 36% in July 2023. Shockingly, none of the hospitals owned by major healthcare players like HCA Healthcare, Tenet Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, Providence, Mercy, and UPMC met full compliance.
This trend underscores the importance of ongoing efforts to ensure transparency in healthcare pricing, empowering patients to make informed decisions about their care.

Breaking News: Senators Roger Marshall, Elizabeth Warren, and Representatives Raul Ruiz, John Joyce have introduced The Physician and Patient Safety Act!
This crucial legislation aims to protect the due process rights of emergency room (ER) physicians, ensuring they can focus on patient care without fear of unfair termination.
At AAEM, we proudly support this bipartisan effort to strengthen healthcare integrity and safeguard patient safety. As Dr. Robert Frolichstein, AAEM’s President, states, "There is no greater policy imperative for patient safety and quality care than enacting this due process legislation."
Join us in supporting this vital bill to secure a safer, fairer healthcare environment. Together, we can ensure every physician has the freedom to uphold their Hippocratic Oath and advocate for their patients' best interests.
