Cannabis Operations Executive

This is a well laid out argument, by Nadia Sabeh PhD, PE, LEED AP , for why having a project manager (client side) who speaks the languages of cultivation, engineering, & finance, is so critical. More often than not the person in charge of the project is unqualified or it’s is unclear who actually holds ultimate responsibility. This is why most run over time and over budget. Ending up with cultivation facilities that will never operate at 100%. The common place failure of the last 10% of the project, coordination, commissioning, etc., started at the project kick-off.

The Devil is in the Details 😈 As many seasoned developers and operators have learned during the CEA-rush, when it comes to executing a profitable and efficient indoor grow operation, the devil is in the details and what gets missed can be as important as what gets addressed. 🎭 My blog post this month was inspired by recent visits with two of our clients, who commented that "the last 10% of starting a new operation is the most critical—and overlooked—part of the project.” This last 10% typically involves coordinating details between the designers, contractors, vendors, and facility operators and owners. 🤝 Inadequate coordination of the details or handoff between team members often results in confusion and frustration for all parties and added expense to the owner or contractor to find and fix issues in the field. Otherwise, the operator will be stuck working against a system that wasn’t thought through from beginning to middle to end. 💩 I'm proud to say that one of these clients commented that they hired us because "when you spoke at the conference, you spoke in a level of detail that I knew you’d been through it." 👩🏫 👩🔧 I'm curious to hear from you. What details have you seen missed that extended the project timeline, added cost, or created frustration? On the flipside, what project details were considered that led to the successful launch or operation of a new facility?
