The less exportable energy the US produces and provides to other countries the more polluted the whole world becomes. The US has some of the most stringent environmental and safety regulations in the world. By not exporting our energy resources we are effectively creating much more emissions in other parts of the world.
In light of Germany’s desire to replace coal with dispatchable #naturalgas as a complement to its #renewable sources of #energy, and its expansion of #LNG import capacity to further move away from Russian natural gas, the US Department of Energy’s decision to place a “pause” on LNG export authorizations is concerning. To assist both our European and Asian #allies, the United States should maintain our position as the #largest, most #reliable, and most #environmentally sensitive LNG exporter in the world. https://lnkd.in/gef7zfCn
The rapid success of the Shale Revolution has made American oil and natural gas the backbone of our economic strength. These resources provide convenience, spur technological innovation and are the basis of our nation’s global influence. At API’s annual State of American Energy today, industry and bipartisan officials noted the risk of short-sighted federal policies which prioritize still-developing energy systems over proven ones, weaken our energy advantage, and threaten jobs and national security. To make sure we maintain our energy advantage the SOAE report calls for smart, bipartisan policies to increase access to oil and natural gas, bolster our energy infrastructure, and strengthen our national security. The real value and necessity of America’s energy advantage became obvious to every observer throughout 2023. While crude oil suppliers cut production elsewhere around the world, America stepped up production of oil and natural gas, despite mixed signals from Washington policymakers. Today, API - American Petroleum Institute unveiled our 2024 State of American Energy to set Washington’s energy policy agenda for the year ahead. At our annual Washington event, we showed that America’s energy advantage is diverse supply of resources, backed by the most innovative minds and hardest-working hands in the world. This American energy advantage was hard won. To maintain it, Congress and the Biden administration must support access to resources, the infrastructure required to handle those resources, and the security imperative of greater U.S. energy independence. This was a #bipartisan position for the better part of 50 years. And as we move into an election year, we have an opportunity to restore its bipartisan status. #Oil and natural #gas provide nearly three-quarters of the energy Americans use. These are strategic assets that sustain modern life and bolster global security. Today’s State of American Energy by API recognizes that Democrats, Independents and Republicans all agree that America has abundant energy right under our feet and we use should use our natural gas and oil to undergird our economy and help allies abroad. Washington policymakers need to come together to build new energy infrastructure and ensure producers have access to oil and natural gas on public lands so that our country doesn’t turn back the clock to dependence on overseas energy. There's a better way, and Washington should unite around American energy from diverse sources – including continued access to oil and natural gas. We need policy solutions that incorporate climate, energy, and national security perspectives to realistically address the issues in front of us.
