The ACA is the collective and representative voice of past and present male and female elite domestic and international cricketers in Australia. ACA members include contracted, transition, and past players, and our Game Plan / Game Plan Next programs and services allow members to develop their 'lives alongside sport'. As someone who has worked since the late 70s, and is now looking into what the next 5-10 years has in store Career wise, it is critical that we better understand how to assist clients as they look towards life and how works 'sits with them' towards retirement.. The article, "Holistic Retirement Planning for Older Workers" is an interesting one, for Practitioners and also those in the latter stages of their career. We know that many of us will be living longer, working longer, and the balance between work and life is one to carefully navigate. This week's 'Thursday's Thought' may feel late in the day in Australia, but is early here in London.. As I pen my weekly thought, I have reflected on how different the world of 'work' is compared to our pre COVID-19 expectations. We are now able to connect with work anywhere in the world, and even though time differences pose a challenge, they do align - albeit early for some. One thing that has not changed for me is the power of a Mentor, and across my 40+ years of work (and sport) I have benefitted from informal mentoring, and formal mentoring. This week the Sport Australia Hall of Fame announced their 2025 Scholarship & Mentoring Program Scholarship Holders, who compete across a wide range of sports. "A total of 32 athletes from 30 different sports will share $150,000 in funding, spread across three levels." In particular Tayte Ryan, South Australian Sports Institute and Port Adelaide Cycling Club's (PACC) Junior World Champion Track Cyclist will be mentored by "Australia’s first ever Winter Olympics gold medalist.." Steven Bradbury OAM. I am sure that Tayte, and all of the other Athletes, will gain invaluable wisdom, support, and knowledge from these Mentors, that will impact and influence their sporting journeys. Today is 'Australian Citizenship Day', and having recently transitioned from being a Permanent Resident (after many many years here in Australia) to becoming a Citizen, a day to reflect on "the meaning and importance of Australian citizenship responsibilities and privileges we have as citizens."
