Just had a chance to watch the first episode, many kudos to Emileo, Maria, and Zel for competing, it takes a lot of heart to do something like this.
- Tough start but Anthony Melchiorri was right, you could even say it's important to arrive a little early. One day I came in 15-20 minutes before my shift started and discovered we needed a table for 20 for brunch in a private space, and they arrived 5 minutes before I walked in the door. You never know what you might be walking into on a given day.
- That is a really good housekeeping test, the group had to be observant and look closely at what is or isn't present in the room. Would those have been items they looked for when normally traveling? What about some of us when we are traveling?
- I definitely enjoyed the F&B challenge of course. (I noticed what the BEO looked like and noted some differences 🤣) It's a department that has a lot of moving pieces and internal clocks/timers you have to factor to make an event happen smoothly.
- I think it became real for them shortly before (when they realize it was a risk of messing it up) and once they started to see guests come in and begin experiencing the party. This is the true power of working in the hotel industry; their ups, downs, and their struggles had a direct and immediate connection to a guest experience, and they were able to see it and feel it. Everyone working in the hotel/hospitality industry today has that memory where you recall "that moment" and at that time I felt "they just found theirs".
I loved the show and think all three of them will find their way in the industry. I also think that many will see this and go "You know what? There's a path for me too" which is a big plus in helping to the build the talent in our industry.
