Friendly advice on looking at this map:  Average speeds are not a good metric when measuring the quality of rail service, unless you are a fan of high-speed only rail networks! After all, you can only get good averages if you skip a lot of stations or they are very very spaced!

When I browsed through the groundbreaking news about the inauguration of Spain's Pajares high-speed rail line, I was in awe—crossing the Cantabrian Mountains in less than 15 minutes? Now that's what I call turning wishes into will. I am stunned by this engineering feat - 12 tunnels, 10 viaducts, and the 7th largest railway tunnel in Europe! Might not be a top player now, but at some point in life, I believe that this high-speed rail venture will turn into a victory lap for Spain's progress. It took 19 years of construction and €4 billion investment to make this incredible 50km line between Spain and Asturias. The future of Øresund’s connectivity everyone is talking about! Will there be any new fixed connection across or under the Öresund, and if so where? That is the question since Denmark clearly said no to a combined train and car connection between Helsingborgs stad and Helsingør Kommune The Swedish government has tasked the Swedish Transport Administration Trafikverket with investigating the capacity and redundancy of the transport system in the Öresund region, and the conclusions of the investigation are expected to be made public later this spring. As for today, there are three different options for a future fixed connection on the table: HH-Link: A fixed link between Danish Helsingør and Swedish Helsingborg for cars and trains. Europasporet: A freight trains tunnel between Landskrona and Copenhagen. The Öresund Metro: An underground metro connection between Copenhagen and Malmö. Interestingly, Malmö stad and Københavns Kommune are seeing the most benefits for the metro connection, while the HH-Link has its champions in northern Öresund. And here, Europaspåret, is gaining momentum with endorsements from Lunds kommun and indirect support from SJ AB and Green Cargo highlighting the need for a solution that accommodates increasing freight volumes.
