I am quite torn about this. Great on both sides, but perhaps I am just stumped at the questions I keep getting back to. So I think from a consumer perspective this is great news, as it is from the perspective of Wizz Air too. What I find myself asking though is what does it mean for the planet? I know Wizz Air have a #SAF programme, which is certainly worth acknowledging, but it’s more about the holistic impact to the planet: Will passenger miles increase? The airline certainly believes so. Will the additional revenue lead to further SAF agreements? I hope so. Will each flight be flying at capacity or will this represent wasted air travel due to the annual pass? I hope for the former! A different perspective on a similar ticket didn’t work out so well for American Airlines when Steve Rothstein booked an AAirpass (a lifetime and unlimited airline ticket) which was amazingly honoured by American #Airlines. Steve went on to take 10,000 flights on American Airlines, costing them a predicted $1m/year whilst he racked up 2million #airmiles a year over 3 decades. The consequence? An airline out of pocket, a passenger living an extreme lifestyle of air miles, and the planet bearing the ultimate price of this excess. So I truly hope the Wizz Air offer (which has alarming already sold out!!) is more sustainable on all fronts! Thoughts? Great thing or environmental flop? #sustainableaviation #sustainableaviationfuel #avgeek

Middle seats on planes have a terrible rep, even more so in a post-pandemic world in which passengers are still wary of close interactions. Aviation industry expert Alexandra Vukolova is usually willing to pay more to avoid a middle seat. Not on short-haul trips though, she writes. During a recent flight in a middle seat, she discovered its hidden benefit: "99% of the time I pay for seats. I don’t mind paying a reasonable ancillary fee for assuring my own comfort. Win win. "But that 1% when the airline wants me to pay €40 for an hour flight (during the check-in) just not to sit in the middle I refuse to support that ancillary strategy ... The unwritten rule goes that a passenger sitting in the middle can have both armrests." Are you OK with paying seat selection fees when flying? How about other additional charges for extra comfort? Share your thoughts in the comments.
Middle seats. I don’t know anyone who would look at the seat map and say “How lovely, I would go for the middle!”. In the ideal airline passenger’s world middle seats would not exist. But then for airlines that would be a horrible world. Because they simply wouldn’t be able to charge people for not sitting in the middle. 99% of the time I pay for seats. I don’t mind paying a reasonable ancillary fee for assuring my own comfort. Win win. But that 1% when the airline wants me to pay €40 for an hour flight (during the check-in) just not to sit in the middle I refuse to support that ancilary strategy. The unwritten rule goes that a passenger sitting in the middle can have both armrests. So that one time when I was sitting in the middle…yes, I did enjoy spreading my arms to the fullest! 😀 #airlineindustry #airlines #airtravel
