Ching Mia Kuang, Managing Director of LE YU Corporate Advisory Group (Singapore) shares his insights in our interview series "Leadership and Corporate Culture: Expert Perspectives": Reflecting on the early days of building his company, he emphasizes the importance of defining a clear strategy to overcome initial challenges and deliver real value to clients. His leadership philosophy: investing in the growth and development of people. "Whatever you learn stays with you forever," he says, advocating for a growth mindset that benefits both the firm and its clients. "Building LE YU Corporate Advisory Group was a challenge at the start—after all, as the Chinese saying goes, 万事起头难 (all beginnings are difficult). But the key to overcoming these challenges was setting a clear strategic direction […] For me, leadership is about training and developing people in an ever-changing environment. I like to say: 'Whatever you learn stays with you forever.' That growth mindset not only benefits our people but also enables our firm to remain agile and client-focused." At EuropeFides, we share this belief in the power of continuous learning and cultural understanding. Our Internship Programme, launched in 2022, continues to support the development of young professionals across our member firms through international placements. The only way to truly experience a #WILNZ conference is to attend, but we’ll be attempting to offer you little snippets over the next couple of days - 🪟 Windows into Work-Integrated Learning 🪟 Window 2🪟: The session started with Nicky Murray (Muka Tangata Workforce Development Council) and Kathryn Koopmanschap (Food and Fibre Centre of Vocational Excellence) with their work around developing a skills framework for the food and fibre sector. While a key economic production area for New Zealand, there was a desire for change in this vocational education area and to develop a skills-first approach focused on work-integrated learning students developing the right skills and competencies for a role. The inclusion of Te Ao Māori was heartening to see. We look forward to hearing more about further developments of this framework. The second speaker in this session was one of our special international delegates who make #WILNZConference2024 a truly international conference. Pann Yu Mon from Kaishi Professional University (Niigata Prefecture, Japan) presented on behalf of her colleagues and demonstrated interesting data comparing the difference between student self-assessment and supervisor assessment on long-term internship programmes. It was fascinating to hear the differences and challenges unique to the academic landscape in Japan while also realising that students the world around can also demonstrate similar behaviours! #workintegratedlearning #cooperativeeducation #skillsfirstapproach #vocationaleducation #studentassessment

My gap year came to an end ✅️ I knew signing up as a first and only student from abroad was going to be a challenge to say the least. ....Oh I was so right. I can honestly say that my brain was frying 🤯 working the whole day fully in german, learning about #automotive or #controlling - basically areas I knew nothing about and in a foreign language at that 🇩🇪 But I came to the programme with some clear goals and they kept me going. So here is my little #recap of my goals and how i did on them in case you're curious what kind of person signs up for such an crazy ride 😄 1. Achieve REAL #fluency in german Having a C1 certificate and actually working in the language 24/7 or dealing with different dillects are two different worlds! 🌏🌍 I arrived in Germany often hearing praise for my language skills, but now I can truly express who I am in German. That’s the best compliment I can give myself!🤌🏻 2. Be #flexible and #hustle Switching from #internship to internship meant no laziness💪🏻 Each new job was a chance to prove myself (we all know how it goes), dealing with lots of moving, logistics, and TONS of situations that just did not go my way (like getting my car towed the night before an exam)🙃 But in my last internship feedback, I heard, "You are super flexible, Paula.” 3. Discover the #culture The #cultureclash was clear from day one, and was visible throughout my reflection posts. I previously had experience in communicating in an international #environment, but working as the only international person in a mostly German environment was eye-opening 👀 Now I know it’s not just about the country’s culture but also the #company’s culture, the team’s culture, and the #attitude of the people around you. I’m taking all these lessons and achievements and not slowing down 🤠 Next step: #Master’s in Diversity and Change Management at Copenhagen Business School! 🚀 #GapYear #Internship #Experience #CulturalExchange #PersonalGrowth #NextChapter

Economic Policy | Policy Analysis | Sustainability, Innovation & Technology | Foreign Policy | MSc. Honour‘s Graduate
After 3 eventful & interesting months of my internship at the Federal Ministry of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation & Technology (Bundesministerium für Klimaschutz, Umwelt, Energie, Mobilität, Innovation & Technologie) in the Taskforce EU - Innovation and Technology, it is time to look back. The many interesting experiences I had can be summed up in 3 C's: 🌐 Complexity: Working at the intersection of Research, Innovation and Technology not only encompassed a myriad of topics, but the subject matter itself is often times quite technical. My learning curve throughout the last three months was incredibly steep - which made every day exciting. 🤝 Collaboration: Working at the EU-level as well as the national necessarily involves including different stakeholders - be that other ministries, DGs, industry and other groups. Hearing all stakeholders is important - though coordinating all of them is a difficult and often slow process. Nevertheless, input from all stakeholders is crucial to develop tractable, intelligent solutions that benefit everyone in the long-term. 🧠 Competence: The ministry’s work, spanning complex subjects, coordinative efforts, multilateral discussions, and strategic planning, was undoubtedly challenging. However, the Directorate General for Technology and Innovation is fortunate to have an incredibly knowledgeable and competent team. Their expertise played a key role in supporting my steep learning curve. No matter the question I had or how complex a process seemed, the team was always there to offer guidance, making collaboration both enriching and seamless. This allowed me to maximise the benefits from the internship - and of course it allowed me to play an active role in all of the workstreams. To close, I want to personally thank the people I worked closest with: Brigitte Weiß Falko Loher, Victor Pérez Delgado and Clara Wend - Thank you for making this experience so exciting and memorable! Next stop: Diplomatische Akademie Wien & Technische Universität Wien for the Master‘s in Environmental Technology and International Affairs. (On a personal note, if I had to pick a highlight of my internship, it would be the Industry Workshop in Brussels, which we organised together with the European Commission👇 )
