Great blog exploring how we think about volunteers within an organisation and the journey that they might take. I love the idea of ‘pick your own adventure’ style approach in which volunteers can select, or even, create a pathway, which enables them to give their time in a way that works best for them and best suits their motivations. #Volunteers #VolunteerManagement #VolunteerStewardship #PickYourOwnAdventure #VolunteerSatisfaction

So helpful
At The Decelerator, we hear these statements at least once a week…but not (yet) in the same rooms: 🤲 Charity Leader: "We’re considering closure but don’t want to tell our funders yet." 💰 Funder: "Too often, we find out about closures too late to help with a better ending or a good transition." Our latest substack shares a few ideas for how people and organisations on both sides of the funding dance might act today for better outcomes tomorrow. https://lnkd.in/enQAMDTh

Communications Director | Certified Career Development Coach | Helping communications professionals write their next chapter
☢ “We need someone to go out to Hanford, Wa. for a month to do local media for our largest contract with the Dept. of Energy. Wanna go?” ☢ Ah, my life before kiddos… when running across the country to talk to reporters about radioactive bunnies 🐇, living in a motel and eating dark, 🍒 sweet cherries from a roadside stand at the base of Mt. Rainier seemed endlessly cool and glamorous… 😂 Just kidding, even then I knew it was ridiculous lol. 🤣 While I still have #noregrets about most of the amazing experiences that I volunteered for as mid-level comms lead, I know it can be extremely hard for professionals to: 1️⃣ Weigh the value of “extra credit” opportunities, 2️⃣ Get selected for one that you desperately WANT 3️⃣ And especially know when and how to bow out of one that has gone totally off the rails So here are three questions ⁉ to consider before raising your hand 🤚 or saying yes to work that is out of scope but that MAY also help you get ahead. Scroll through below and let me know in the comments, what was the best “extra credit” opportunity that you ever raised your hand or said yes to? What made it good? What was the reward? #careerdevelopment #extracredit #specialprojects

Let’s talk food insecurity 📢 “Research has shown time and time again that Nova Scotians are food insecure because they don’t have enough income, not because there isn’t enough food. One in every ten Nova Scotians can’t afford the cost of a basket of goods and services necessary for a basic standard of living. At the same time, Nova Scotia has one of the lowest income support rates in the country” (Feed NS, https://lnkd.in/ehq4Uumr). Feed NS is among many groups and individuals who know the solution to food insecurity depends on policies that increase the financial livelihood of low income Nova Scotians. They also know that in the efforts for systemic change, there is an urgent need for food access right now. This incredible team and their volunteers collect and distribute about three million kilograms of food annually to over 140 food banks, shelters, and meal programs across the province. The Faculty of Management had the opportunity to put our warehouse gloves on and contribute to the Feed NS efforts this week- packing and wrapping over 20 pallets of non-perishable food that will soon be on a truck and in the hands of our Nova Scotian community members in need. Though our team had a blast working alongside the Feed NS team, it served as an important reminder that, as a province, there is a long road ahead. There is a call to action. There are many ways to get involved in the fight to end food insecurity.
