Are T-Level placements the future of construction careers? I say, absolutely. 💭 👇 On Friday I attended Northampton College's T-Level Information Event, hearing insight from employers, teachers and construction colleagues. T-Levels are proving to be a game-changer for both students and employers, offering a structured and focused pathway into the construction industry. Are they a good fit for construction employers and can they support the delivery of impactful social value to meet industry demand? 📊 The UK construction industry needs 217,000 new workers by 2025 to meet growing demands and infrastructure projects. (CITB). 📊 Only 10% of the construction workforce is aged 19-24, highlighting a significant opportunity for young professionals to enter the field. (ONS). 📊 33% of UK construction firms report difficulties in finding skilled workers, underscoring the importance of structured training programs like T-Levels. (FMB). In my experience of with working with different contractors and developers, T-Levels will offer greater flexibility and structure compared to traditional apprenticeships, allowing employers to efficiently manage student time and project involvement. The structured approach not only benefits the students but also ensures that employers can integrate them seamlessly into their operations. A big thank you to Northampton College for hosting such an insightful event. It’s encouraging to see the high standards of T-Levels and their positive impact on the construction sector. It’s #ConstructionMonth2024! We want to take a moment to recognize our apprentices, the journeypersons who train them, and the employers who support them. RCABC has been busy working hard to train new roofers and expand the talent pools in our sector. Our communities depend on the hard work of builders and skilled tradespeople, and it’s important to recognize the dedication and teamwork it takes to transfer skills and knowledge from one generation to the next. As governments continue to provide funding to ease the financial barriers employers face to hire and train first-year apprentices, there may never be a better time to take on an apprentice to help grow your business. We’re pleased to partner with the British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA) for Construction Month, as we highlight RCABC’s commitment to building BC’s skilled workforce. Yesterday, CHCC’s Government Affairs Team joined State Representative Tim Ackert, the Independent Electrical Contractors, and the Home Builders in a press conference. The event aimed to educate lawmakers and the public about the pressing necessity of supporting the trades and ensuring their unrestricted growth. Elected officials have a duty to serve the needs of the people and address urgent matters that affect the workforce, such as removing unnecessary restrictions on vital sectors, like the trades. The press conference embodies a commitment to collaboration and progress, echoing the sentiment that together, let us recognize that the removal of the restrictive hiring ratio is a straightforward solution that costs the State of CT NOTHING! However, its potential benefits are substantial, promising increased economic growth, enhanced productivity, job creation, and higher income tax revenue. Government representation is fundamentally about voting in alignment with the will of the people, and considering that over 85% of Connecticut's construction industry operates on a merit-based business model, the impact on their livelihood is significant. It's time to prioritize practicality over politics and make the choice that supports the majority. Vote to remove the hiring restriction immediately and pave the way for a stronger, more prosperous Connecticut. #RemovetheRestriction #SkilledTrades #MeritShop #CTConstruction #HVACContractors #LoveForTheTrades #EarnWhileYouLearn #Apprenticeship #theother4yeardegree #CTContractors #RepresentativeGovernment #CareerGrowth #WorkforceDevelopment #BuildingTheFuture 🔧💪 Let's build together for a brighter and more skilled tomorrow! 🌟Stillman Jordan III, P.E.Tim Ackert, Jennifer Jennings, Joseph Pellecchia https://lnkd.in/eRtKgR_z

Transpennine Route Upgrade places apprentices at heart of Northern rail ambition The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is close to reaching the halfway mark of its ambitious aim to take on 590 apprentices across the rail upgrade between Manchester and York, via Leeds and Huddersfield. The number of apprentices on the multi-billion-pound programme has reached 264, primarily recruited from locations along the route and amounting to £14.3 million in value to society, according to the Rail Social Value Tool. Apprentices on TRU identify the cost of living crisis, tuition fee debt, career prospects and enhanced hands-on learning as reasons for choosing apprenticeships. TRU, which recently secured a further £3.9 bn of governmental funding, marks the milestone during National Apprenticeship Week, taking place 5-12 February. TRU is creating tens of thousands of jobs both directly and indirectly, including 8,000 new and safeguarded roles, with 60% of the construction workforce employed from within 25 miles of the route and 80% within 40 miles. TRU is also set to deliver a minimum 50p value to society for every £1 spent on construction, generating £4.28 billion of social value, as outlined in the TRU Sustainability Strategy ‘Our Guiding Compass’ which was published last Summer. Apprentices are working in various disciplines across TRU, including Civil Engineering, Project Management, Quantity Surveying and Ecology. Many TRU apprentices have university degrees built into their apprenticeships, taking one or two days a week off work to study. #networkrail https://lnkd.in/ex4xBC3X
