Funding opportunity for those NGOs/CBOs working in #Africa to address #employability skills challenge amongst young people… The recent Report by International Labour Organisation says that by 2050, one in every three young people on earth will be of African origin. That same Publication dubbed ‘Global Employment Trends for Youth’ highlights that young people will be key players in the direction of future global consumption, culture and even stability. The challenge is, majority of people out of employment, live in Africa: One in four young people in Africa are (not in employment, education, or training (NEET)with Two-thirds of them are young women. South Africa is reporting the highest number of young people in the world not employed. And East Africa is being singled out as a region with more than half of its young people aged 15-35 being unemployed, with the rate even higher for young women in rural areas… Laureus, IOC and AFD jointlty has funding opportunity for those (local)organisations that are using sports as a tool to equip young people with skills that would provide opportunities for MEANINGFUL employment….

South Africa needs better youth development in football for a few key reasons. Firstly, a strong youth development system is essential for nurturing young talent and providing them with the necessary skills and opportunities to succeed in the sport. By investing in youth development programs, South Africa can identify and develop promising young players from a young age, giving them the tools they need to progress to higher levels of competition. Secondly, a robust youth development system can help create a sustainable pipeline of talent for South African football. By focusing on youth development, the country can ensure a steady supply of skilled players for club teams and the national team, helping to maintain competitiveness and success in the long term. Additionally, youth development is essential for social development and empowerment. Football can offer young people from all backgrounds a sense of purpose, discipline, and community, helping them to develop important life skills both on and off the pitch. Investing in youth development in football is not just about creating better players, but also about shaping well-rounded individuals who can positively contribute to society.

"Sport Pour Tous fi Houmetna" One of the initiatives that won the first prize in the "24H Challenge" competition within the framework of MaghroumIN project. "24H Challenge" focused on innovation through a competition of ideas around actions for the inclusion of young people in the sports and culture sectors where 4 innovative local actions have been awarded prizes for their implementation. The "24H Challenge" also offers an opportunity for constructive and informative exchange between young activists, field actors (civil society organizations, managers of local public structures), experts, researchers, and institutional managers. Within this event, 10 sports and cultural association as well as 10 public institutions under the supervision of the MOYS and MOC participated in this competition, where 'we' the Tunisian Federation of Sport for All was one of the winners of the "24H Challenge" with the idea of "Sport Pour Tous fi Houmetna" (Sport for all in our neighberhood). Through this initiative, 24 young men and woman passionate about sport (Neets and P.E students), from the city of Oueslatia, have been trained in the field of Sport for All during a bootcamp of 10 days at the youth house, then they organized this amazing sporting event at the Municipality stadium for 750 persons (children, youth, parents, woman, etc.). Furthermore, the 24 benificiaries organized since August 2023 until today, 250 day-to-day sport for all activities at 5 neighberhoods of the city, for 4500 children. As a result of all this, 12 young men and woman among the 24 young leaders, have been recruited from the sports academies and clubs as sport for all coaches. #MaghroumIN is a component of the EU4Youth - Tunisia program financed by the European Union, aims to strengthen the inclusion and participation of young Tunisians in vulnerable situations in public life at the local level through creation, culture and sport, while taking into consideration the different forms of exclusion. New EBAG Report in Progress: The Cost of Youth Development in European Basketball - Economic Analysis of Investments in Youth Development and their Strategic Importance for the Future of European Basketball One of the key determinants of demand for a sports competition is the quality of the game which is directly related to the quality of the players, i.e. better players attract more attention and ultimately create more economic value. The intensity of competition among the (international) basketball leagues for playing talent has been significantly increasing in recent years. While Europe has a long tradition of producing elite players, due to several structural factors, identification, development and retention of talented players are becoming more and more difficult for European basketball clubs. In this study, we are performing an in-depth analysis of European Youth Development model, especially from an economic perspective.

I am not a full-time academic, but a while ago I submitted an article to an esteemed international journal on the success (or rather, failure) of the South African National Academy Framework. This Framework has not evolved since 2013. Yes- on paper it looks good. However, I work in the sports space and can vouch for the unsuccessful implementation of this framework. I also commented on the severe lack of funding for our athletes. Again the reviewers believed that money is available…. The article was rejected. The reason: The reviewers believed, that the current academy system is working. “A lot has changed in South African sport in the last few years”. I don't believe this is true... - Team SA received a total grant of ZAR39 million from the SA Lotteries Commission, or $2.1m, indicating a severe lack of financial support - The SA Hockey teams had to crowd-fund to get to the Games - Jo-Ane van Dyk, silver-medallist in the javelin, had to get her parents to take extra loans to get her to the Games. - Per pollution, it looks even worse. Grenada topped the table with 56,000 people per medal. South Africa: Wait for it: One medal per 10 107 036 people…. - Since re-admission to the Olympic Games in 1992, the most successful Olympics were in 2016, with a total of 10 medals. 1992- 2 1996- 5 2000- 5 2004- 6 2008- 1 2012-6 2016-10 2020- 3 2024- 6 Surely, if the national academy system is working, there would be (and I know this is not the only criteria or prerequisite) : - More talent identification in all areas of the country  - More inclusion, rather than exclusion  - More medals per population - More resources made available to support top-level athletes and teams - More athletes qualifying for the Games - A provincial and national academy of sports system that is professionally managed  - Better athlete support 44 medals in 9 Olympic Games……. 🙁

SKILLS LAB CASE STUDY: MO FUSENI   STURM GRAZ FORWARD SCOUTED IN GHANA AND ASSESSED BY SK STURM GRAZ USING THE SKILLS.LAB ARENA Mo Fuseini, a young footballer from Ghana,West Africa  was scouted and assessed by SK Sturm Graz using the skills.lab arena, which is a modern training and assessment system for footballers. In January 2022, Fuseini traveled to Austria with high hopes and was invited by SK Sturm Graz for trial training due to his potential. The club, leveraging its partnership with skills.lab, conducted comprehensive performance tests on Fuseini and other talents. These tests are designed to objectively evaluate players based on their technical and cognitive abilities.Fuseini excelled in these assessments, outperforming other candidates and showing remarkable results compared to existing squad players. His performance in the skills.lab, combined with his impressive play in training and matches for the SK Sturm second team, led to his contract with the club being extended until 2026.Fuseni is currently on loan to Randers FC in Denmark where he continues to excel scoring 8 goals in 10 appearances for the season 23/24.The skills lab arena, which has been integrated within academies at European clubs such as FC Bayern München and KKS Lech Poznań S.A represents a tool to objectively assess and compare players by setting performance benchmarks. As demonstrated by Sturm Graz, investment into skills lab technology, for greater insights on player performance,  has helped not only optimize their talent assessment methodology but also in transitioning youth teams to professional levels and in rehabilitation training for injured players. OBJECTIVE TALENT IDENTIFICATION :A STRATEGIC  AFRICAN FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT AND  INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY Football Talent is abundant in Africa .
