We end a chapter in music history. The last album from legendary musician Childish Gambino has been released and has received critical acclaim from the masses. He leaves a legacy that many have built upon, inspiring many to start their own musical journeys and transform their musical styles. An authentic talent from a person that has many talents to speak of, whether it be directing and acting or being a producer and artist, Childish Gambino is in a league with the likes of Pharrell and many others, rising above the majority of talents with his cultural impact and prowess. I think this record emulates his last thoughts being in the music industry this long, the trials and errors, the lessons, and then realisations that happened through out his career, from songs like In the Night to No Excuses (this song being reminiscent of his ep Summer Pack) really tying to his music legacy track by track with meticulously placed features that make this record what it is. Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) spoke about his departure from music, saying, “There’s nothing worse than like a third sequel, like a third movie, and we’re like, ‘again?’” from his interview with Revolt Magazine, referring to his music becoming "expected" and dragged out when that's not his true intention. I think musicians can learn from this and really reflect, knowing when to stop. As in, talent and creativity will always be there, but when the feeling and authenticity leave, you should follow them and not force your art, because forceful art is the downfall of any great artist. #musiclegacy #unmatchedtalent #culturalicon #endofanera #youngtalent #creativeways #musicanmindset #knowingwhentostepback

I confess: I'm one of those few who do not know ANY lyrics of Burna Boy's music😩. But this is not about music choice. It's about art. 💯And when it comes to Africa’s creative arts and design industry, you have my full attention. If we're talking numbers, the #Music market in #Africa is projected to grow by at least 11.48% (2022-2027) resulting in a market volume of US$49.37m in 2027, according to Statista. It would be remiss not to recognize Burna Boy's exploits in putting African music on the map. Check out his performance at the 66 #grammyawards.

“Music brings people together. It allows us to experience the same emotions. People everywhere are the same in heart and spirit. No matter what language we speak, what color we are, the form of our politics or the expression of our love and our faith, music proves: We are the same.”~ John Denver ~ One of the ways I hope to unite others with Hope & Love Radio is through one of its unique radio shows: Songs in Different Languages, which plays on Wednesday at 12pm PST. Essentially, this radio show consists of cover songs of our popular hits, but in different languages. Some of the songs are My Heart Will Go On in Greek, Open Arms in Spanish, Without You from Rent in Icelandic, and many many more. I believe hearing these well known songs in different languages has the capacity to remind us that we truly are the same. Listening to familiar lyrics, for example, has the power to elicit the same emotions, regardless of the language the song was sung in. Not only that, we tend to endure the passion felt by the musical artists when they are performing, wouldn't you agree? This instance alone has the ability to bond us together, again regardless of the language sung because of the artist's intent. For example, If the artist was trying to portray happiness, we would experience that happiness. Or, on the other hand, if the artist was trying to portray heartbreak, we would experience that sadness instead. It’s amazing how this actually comes into play, but it does. Over and over again….. As humans, we really do carry all the same attributes, and all the same emotions. So, by listening to songs in different languages, if only for a second, can be the start to break down some of the barriers that separate us. Consequently, it can be the key to commence unification. That being said, Tune in, enjoy, and let’s start breaking down those walls. Hope to see you there. Also, Hope & Love Radio is having two amazing end of year contests. How to stay happy as a creator... Sometimes you can be good at something, but when you do it you don't have fun. But if you have fun doing something you'll get better at it. Support. A huge enabler for enjoying what you do is having people in your circle who see you, who trust you, and support you. If you don't have that, maybe because nobody in your current circle understands what you do, then I believe you should find it. For me that meant travelling abroad to attend industry related workshops where I met some incredibly talented and lovely people I'm proud to now call my friends. Having someone with whom you can share your development journey is so important. Perspective, Positivity & Respect. I've been a creative freelancer for a number of years now, and I can spend a lot of time working on my own. Sometimes that means I can obsess over small details that only I would notice, and maybe waste a lot of time in the process. Getting an informed alternative perspective from someone you trust is good for both growth and efficiency, which leads to less stress and more happiness. But of equal importance is to avoid armchair critics and egos. I made a conscious decision a few years ago to distance myself from negative and toxic influences. Stay humble, and if you don't have anything nice to say to someone, don't say anything. Finite favours. Its inevitable. People you know will ask for favours. In the passed I've created content for free where I let myself get carried away in someone else's dream, losing 100s of hours of work and feeling pressured to produce more and more content with no clearly defined goals or outcomes. It made me unhappy. I still do stuff for people, but my rule is that it should be both fun and finite. Music production is my passion, but its also my business. I can't play around forever, and my skills are valuable. Social media. Its all about community. I started a youtube channel and built a community around it... at first I'll admit I was looking for ad revenue, likes and subscribers, but after a while I realised that didn't make me happy .. even after more than a million views. So instead I focussed on building a community which did. As a result my Youtube channel connected me to one of my biggest clients. And while I'm not very popular on Linkedin (this platform doesn't appear to work well for artists IMO), I've met some lovely people on here. Case in point, my recent serendipitous musical collaboration with Arnaly Arriaga Blanco who was fun to work with and possessed a hidden talent. If you want to see what results just having fun can achieve, I'd urge you to check this out https://lnkd.in/eFT6Aa84 As a creator, staying happy is fundamental to long term survival. And if you're having fun, you're not only staying happy, you're probably getting better too.
Alone... That’s a song from the 80s by a rock band fronted by two amazing women called "Heart". So, I started following this awesome musician here on LinkedIn. His name is Julian Croot. He recreates songs from the 80s and 90s in his ultra-cool studio. He also has a YouTube channel with a ton of fans that love what he does. Who wouldn't? Of course, it reminded me of the times I had my own cover band, the one I wrote about some time ago. One day, I decided to tell him about my band. The conversation started. A Zoom conversation, that is. Musicians love conversations, and they usually go like this: Equipment, keyboards, gigs, gear, sounds, presets, more equipment, more gigs, reminiscing of the good music from the 80s, reminiscing of the bands, more gear, setup, controllers, then... Julian: “I need a female singer for one of the songs I did.” Me: I am it! Julian: Do you know the band “Heart”? Me: Yes, I can do it! Julian: Do you know the song “Alone”? Me: Of course, who doesn’t? I will sing it! Julian: Would you like to sing it? Me: Finally!! BIG SMILE Somehow, I forgot a small detail before saying yes. The singer from Heart sings in a very high key, and I am a contralto, meaning the range of my voice is quite low compared to hers. In Spanish we say, "Ya estoy montada en el burro, ahora hay que arrearlo" (I'm already on the donkey, now I have to keep it going)... or something like that! You get the idea. That tiny detail didn’t stop me. I’ve always wanted to sing a power ballad. Specifically, this one. The first version I sent wasn’t quite there yet. However, Julian said to me, “As soon as you belted the chorus, I knew it would work out!” Say no more! It took me three weeks to retrain my voice to reach those high notes, and I did it. At the end of the day, we're not "alone", and this was bliss! This is me. Arnaly. The Spanish teacher. The voice-over. Doing what I love most in life. Singing. Making music. Hope you like it! Curious about what I do? DM me.

The Elephant in the Room...The Truth Hurts. "Every single one's got a story to tell Everyone knows about it From the Queen of England to the Hounds of Hell" - Seven Nation Army, The White Stripes Let's face it, music industry folks get it wrong often. But mistakes and getting it wrong are key and crucial to learning and getting it right. We all have stories. When I was at V2 back in the day, went with Jeremy Pearce etc to see The White Stripes for the first time as we were looking to sign them in a big deal. They had just independently released their "White Blood Cells" album. I liked them but wasn't 100% convinced especially with the weight of the deal. Thankfully the rest of the crew saw the potential, V2 signed them, and the album they delivered, the mighty "Elephant" (featuring "Seven Nation Army") ended up being one of our label's biggest successes and The White Stripes ended up being one of my favourite groups ever. The Lesson? Surround yourself with the greatest team of really talented authentic smart music people you can find, so if you slip up and make a mistake, the others won't, and you'll all win. The big question is, what will the UK Music industry choose to learn from Raye? “Raye’s six Brit awards marked a huge vindication for the newly independent artist and rightly shamed the major label that apparently couldn’t see her potential”. #music #musicbusiness #ukmusic #truth #womenentrepreneurs #womeninmusic #musicindustry #lessonslearned
Raye’s record-breaking Brits defied the limited imaginations of the British music industry
