"Transforming Lives, One Dream at a Time" We recently partnered with HammondCare, highlighting the incredible impact of The Dreams Project within their palliative care unit. Each year around 60,000 Australians receive life-changing palliative care, with a majority experiencing significant relief from pain and distress. Yet, the demand for these services is rapidly growing, stretching our healthcare system. HammondCare's Dreams Project steps in here, granting heartfelt wishes to end-of-life patients, funded solely by generous donations. Our task was to capture the essence of this beautiful initiative. We crafted a deeply moving video, bringing to light the profound difference each dream makes. This video isn't just a showcase; it's a call to action. It's designed to inspire and encourage benefactors and donors to support this vital cause. Our production aimed to stir emotions and motivate action, and we believe it does just that. Watch the journey, feel the impact, and join us in making more dreams come true. One of the great scandals of our time is the routine placement of children in care in homes many miles away from their close connections. The reasons for this are complex but one of them is the shortage of providers willing to reserve their places for local children (‘local’ meaning within an easy travel distance of their original home). This shortage is fuelled in part by the commercial pressures created by investor-owners to keep homes fully occupied, regardless of where in the country those children are sent from. Many areas, therefore, end up with quite a few homes occupied by children from outside the area while the local council will be forced to place their own children further afield, should a local placement not be available. Yes, it’s a form of madness, but one that is the norm in most of England. Is there a solution? Yes there is and one of them is to create more providers like We Are Juno CIC (of which I am honoured to be Chair) who explicitly commit our places to children from Liverpool City Region. This, of course, means a smaller ‘pool’ of children for our homes (which is operationally more challenging) but it does mean that a child from the Liverpool City Region area will not be sent out of area when they don’t need to be. The piece below from C4 News is a superb investment of time for anyone trying to understand the nature of the problems in the children’s social care system and what possible solutions look like. In short, what are needed are homes EVERYWHERE that prioritise local children and don’t rely on an economic model that drives the provider to take children from further afield. My own view is that chains of homes run on impact-first lines are needed, ideally where there are clear incentives to provide exclusively for local children. This is easier said than done. At We Are Juno CIC and other fantastic providers like Social adVentures and Navigo we are trying to demonstrate the art of the possible. We also need social investors to step up to the plate on this and make the capital available to create more of these places. Local homes for local children. It can’t be that difficult, can it? #childrenssocialcare #c4 #dfe #ceo #leader #guardian #safeguarding #become
I spoke to Channel 4 News about our new report showing more children in care being moved away from their local area with huge impact on their lives and wellbeing. The care system is in crisis and children are paying the price. This needs to change. https://lnkd.in/eF46geZ2

Grateful engagement (formerly known as the “grateful patient program”) is a strategy that guides health care organizations to proactively engage grateful patients and families in sharing and celebrating stories of gratitude. Grateful patient engagement also allows patients and families to express their gratitude for care through philanthropy. A key success factor is the development of strategic partnerships with key internal allies (such as physicians, clinicians, nursing leaders, service line leaders and administrative leaders) to help identify, cultivate and steward grateful patient and family donors. A successful grateful engagement strategy not only elevates gratitude within health care organizations but also enables a streamlined and robust approach to generating continuous pools of new prospective donors. Therefore, grateful engagement should be embraced by every member of the organization’s development team and should be a top priority for the organization’s daily work. Whether embarking upon your organization’s first grateful engagement strategy or fine-tuning existing efforts, check out this piece from Accordant's Erin M. Stitzel, FAHP, and Debbie Ferguson, CFRE, for five key elements that are essential in guiding your endeavor: https://ow.ly/Ah7Z50SLVyv #healthcare #philanthropy #gratefulengagement #strategy

Great overview of Planned Giving by the Health Care Foundation. Regarding resources, don't discount what you might have to give. For example, an old life insurance policy can do wonders. "Trapped" money in a company or professional corporation can be extracted to do something great. Even unneeded CPP payments can be redirected to make a significant gift. Take the first step and start the conversation with your advisor or Derrick Moore. You will be amazed at what can be done. Give. Smarter. Ask how.

DME recycle and reuse programs don't get as much press as they should. They are truly remarkable in making impacts in three major challenge areas in our society, including 1) lack of funding for DME, 2) shorter length of stays and increased need for DME, and 3) our current challenges in the #climate crisis. Hannah and I would be happy to talk to anyone interested in learning more about the program at Methodist, and the impact it has made on the #GreaterOmaha community. #meaningofcare #dme #policy #advocacy

VIDEO. You live in the hospital? 😳. Well, do you know of a better way to understand everything, well almost everything about hospitals? How they work, how they are run, what every machine and ward does, know a lot of the staff, a day in the life of a hospital. I lived in every single hospital my mother was in. I made some business sacrifices, but I was never going to leave her side, just too loyal and faithful a son. People think you are staff. When they announce that visiting hours are over, some hospitals tell you that you can stay, you sleep on the floor or a chair, some even give you a cot somewhere in the hospital or a private room overnight. Every hospital is different, some don't allow overnight stays, but a number of hospitals in Western Canada have a completely different philosophy and approach than hospitals in the rest of Canada, to patients' family members, friendliness to family members of patients' families, patients' family rooms and accommodation, or they find you a place to stay near to the hospital, some even have other buildings on hospital campus especially for patients' families to stay. You know a lot of things about hospitals, even different philosophies and operations. Click on the exit on the top right to access the video. You can learn so much about hospitals, if you really want to.
