Anyone who reads anything that I have ever written knows that I frequently talk about GRACE and CONTEXT. We live in an era where everyone with an internet connection or smartphone considers themselves an expert or guru. Due to the abundance and speed of information, many feel compelled to be the first to voice opinions or make judgments. This rush to judgment has time and again proven detrimental to society. Studies show that misinformation spreads six times faster on social media than true information, highlighting the impact of premature conclusions #Misinformation #SocialMediaStats #CovingtonKids #JussieSmollett I can cite numerous headlines where people jumped to conclusions without proper context or compassion. The consequences of such actions are not trivial. Personally, I've lost two grandparents and one parent to cancer, along with too many friends. The negative comments, speculation, and conspiracy theories surrounding photo from a few weeks ago and information about them haven't aged well, illustrating the harm of baseless assertions. One study found that 59% of shared online stories are not even clicked on by those who spread them, let alone thoroughly read. A note to everyone: unless you're a reporter on the front line of a war, there's no need for an immediate opinion on everything you see. If you feel compelled to comment without full context, please show grace and be open to admitting if you were wrong. I usually find articles like this shallow & silly. But this one.... This one is pretty good. I've said the "wrong thing" A lot of times Even with the best intentions (AKA: a human) Unlike the swath of "how to" click-bait-y nonsense everywhere... It's straightforward. Very practical. Useful. Take the 4 minutes to check this out. I'd pair it with the following EQ-building trick: Asking the yourself these 3 questions Before opening your mouth: Does this need to be said? Does this need to be said by me? Does this need to be said by me now? A powerful combo for keeping one's foot, Appropriately outside of one's mouth.

Nice thoughts of a dying man. Often the time people gain insights or changes of heart. Especially liked this part: Make smiling eye contact with strangers – particularly if they look miserable or haughty or thuggish. Compliment and thank people. Say kind things about them behind their backs. ==>> there is never enough kindness in the world & when someone smiles at you as he suggests here: appreciate it for what it is, an expression of warmth & compassion, rather than doubt it in fear. Believe in the goodness of man. Our world is surely complicated and fraught with many issues… improve it, we can by paying it forward and increasing the level of kindness. Philosophic way to start the day: wish ya’ll a lovely one!

Day 2 of Movember - Let's talk cancer: My very own Papa Luigi is a prostate cancer survivor (and thriver)! Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men, and 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. However, for firefighters, studies have found a 1.15-fold increased risk of prostate cancer diagnosis – meaning that for every 100 non-firefighters with prostate cancer there were 115 male firefighters diagnosed! Early detection is critical! In Canada, Movember is the second largest funder of overall projects relating to prostate cancer research, investing over $107 million since 2008. Disclaimer: This post isn’t really about the royal family although they are referenced here. If there’s anything we can learn from the events related to Princess Kate’s cancer news, it is to think from the other person’s perspective before coming to conclusions. I remember seeing a number of news articles that spoke about her missing in action with a lot of speculation around what was happening. Some of them didn’t put her in a good light. Then the news came, which I believe uncovered the truth to be totally different from what people imagined or perceived. It can sometimes be easy to form an opinion or perception about someone. Based on past experiences, based on what others might have to say about that person or simply our own beliefs and biases. I think it’s worth suspending those biases for a moment and think “What am I missing here?” And if the answer isn’t clear, you can always speak to the other person and try to understand what’s happening in their world. For they may be fighting battles that you know nothing about. Empathy is what fuels our connection with others, especially in testing moments.
