Sometimes basic communication seems so, well, BASIC, that it's easily over-looked. Two weeks ago I wanted to buy my son gift cards to some of his favorite eating establishments. It was a Monday afternoon and one of them was shut-tight. Since it's not some place I frequent, I wasn't sure whether they were closed for the day, or closed for good. I moved on and purchased gift cards at other places. (Turns out, they were just closed because it was Monday.) There was no "Open Hours" sign in the window. I had no motivation to return and try my luck again. Making it easy to do business with you and your company starts with great communication. Last week I was on Beaver Island in Michigan. They have the most fabulous toy store in the whole world. I. Am. Not. Kidding. The owner, Mary Rose, is practically an institution. She hasn't aged one minute in the twenty+ years I've been a customer. It's a very seasonal business: population on the island swells in the summer and falls off exponentially at the end of August. This is one of the best signs I've ever seen. How do you let your customers know when you're available? #salesdevelopment #customerexperience #salestraining

Who knew Lake Michigan had an archipelago of islands? Beaver Island is the biggest of the group. If you're not familiar with it, Google map it. It will surprise you!
